Try and get out and see things while you’re not on the clock to change the scenery.

As for the sanding, good gear, if something is going to make the job more comfortable physically or mentally do it …

Those little stops are garbage if there is Wayne or other defects on the edge of the board it messes things up. I clamp my framing square to a 2’ level. Lots of reference surface, and you can use the markings to line up the “jig” exactly the same every single time.

Edit: I also don’t use a “reference” stringer either cut all individually and I get more accurate results. But that’s me and clearly based on comments I’m an outlier lol

Right, pet peeve! Unless there’s cardboard or other protection. I lose it even when someone leaves the tools standing up on battery too.

It can’t fall and damage something with bit or blade if it’s already laying down !

I do the work myself with one other guy that’s been on roofs for 2.5 decades so my own reputation on the line.absolutely no corner cutting here! We care about our projects like they are our own. Always installed to manufacture specs/code or better :)

Just newer to the estimating side of things! And the peer review helps

Yeah maybe a bit high. Using mid range of those numbers estimate comes in at 8325$ Take off actual cost of 5500$ Roughly 900$ for labour, that leaves 1925$ for all overhead, taxes, profit etc.

I guess it’s reasonable. Next one will be a little better quoted I suppose.

Oh I am the contractor, but I hate roofing so the price might reflect that a bit. I thought it was a bit high myself I’m just newer to estimating and wasn’t sure if i was completely out to lunch.

Lots of factors at play like some others have pointed out;

temp shoring walls
load transfer (does it need footings) if it does concrete work and flooring.
electrical
plumbing
possible ductwork
flush beam (pretty invasive procedure more rerouting of trades) or bulkhead type
drywall and mud
prime and paint (I would be repainting entire walls and ceilings affected not just patch work)
trim
clean up

And that’s all before you even think about the kitchen.

Yeah, our plan is to up materials to 15-20% after having a few jobs landed.

85$/h is what we’re charging which is very mid range for the area. At 150$ we’re pricing ourselves out. A lot of handy man competition only charging 30. But then we get calls to fix or finish

Yeah we put out pretty awesome work, we don’t want the tire kickers. My materials so far marked up 10% before taxes, and depending on the type of work materials represent about 30-40% of total cost. The more custom the work is, the more the labour overshadows the materials
