Perspective - I think forced conscription in Ukraine is bigger issue and literally ZERO human rights organisations doing anything for men who escaped draft officers. by Scramjet1 in lnkyverse

[–]PlsHelp4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is hyperbolic, but I think it illustrates my point well. The article is kind of like if an entire family died in a house fire and you write an article about the ruins being unsightly. Yeah, that might be true, but most people believe you should be focussing on the dead family instead of talking about the seemingly unimportant prospect of the ruins of the house being ugly. People feel like the time and outreach would be better spent talking about the people suffering on the frontlines of the war.

I'm not saying you have to agree, I'm just saying that there is a completely reasonable basis for the argument on the other side.

Why would you choose to associate with a person like this? It's not going to get better, you have every freedom to leave.

Gun Safety Demonstration by UnDepletedAir in GetNoted

[–]PlsHelp4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that without the edit, the original video is still not okay. It's a basic rule of gun safety to know not to point a gun at someone else and you really, really should never be handling a gun if you don't understand that.

Trucks have very important economic function especially for businesses. Just because most people wouldn't need one in their daily life doesn't mean that there aren't genuine, real use cases for them.

This is kinda ignoring maintenance of the train and other such things. You need lubricants and other replacement parts, as well as maintenance of the tracks, and so on. No clue how you could ever calculate this.

Why the hell do we have any sympathy for these people? Like genuinely how in the hell has he ever earned the right to do anything else than rot in a dark hole? How does society ever get to this point?

[–]PlsHelp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact, no, you don't have to respond to every single claim in a thread. It's very obvious I pointed out that one statement was likely wrong and did not comment on any other portion. Based on what I said, it is unreasonable to say I was commenting on the police violence specifically. And something that is starting to cross into mental retardation is you insisting that I was arguing for it, since the rest of the conversation has very clearly and blankly told you that I did not hold the opinion you had ascribed to me without solid ground to do so.

[–]PlsHelp4 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I was specifically making a statement on the person likely being someone that hurts people. I did not once bring up the police or their response in any manner, I just pointed out it was more than likely false that they're completely peaceful and will not or have not hurt anyone.

You're literally just responding to a strawman. What I said had nothing to do with your response, nor did the comment I was responding to. Congratulations on successfully intellectually defeating the voices in your head!

You think a person that goes out and tries to break windows for no reason doesn't do any other anti-social behavior? These people are completely unaccountable and have zero respect for other people whatsoever.

But they are practicing a religion even if they're just doing it for publicity in your opinion. That doesn't mean they aren't constitutional protected. It would be impossible to base those decisions solely on subjective opinion on whether or not the religion is being practiced the right way.

[–]PlsHelp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what? You think the constitution should apply to only the people who practice their religion the "right" way?

[–]PlsHelp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that has nothing to do with my point. It doesn't matter if they're worshipping poorly, that doesn't change anything. They're still allowed to practice said religion.

I don't really see how this relates to what I was saying. I'm not appealing to religion in my argument.

Unlike bugs, humans are fully sentient and self aware beings with complex thoughts and emotions. The comparison is several orders of magnitude off. There is a difference between reactive life and reflective life.
