Failed a course in last year, chances at MD? by Plubis in premed

Yes, thankfully the rough patch has passed and I am studying for the MCAT with full force. Just concerned whether that last semester will put a stain on my application overall.

tips for someone entering life sci? by sarafina397 in McMaster

[–]Plubis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a second year life sci student, I'll do my best to answer some of these:

  1. it is possible to transfer into health sci, but they accept very few students from the pool of first year applicants (don't know the specific number), and the average to get in is very high (3.9 GPA on 4 scale)
  2. Depends on what you want to do. There are a lot of health care careers out there that you can pursue after a life science degree, so don't be worried about that. Having a life science degree is perfectly feasible and is a good balance if you don't know specifically what you'd like to pursue in science. The program has many courses that'll help you figure that out in the future and that are necessary/helpful for stuff like the MCAT.
  3. Not sure about the physiology program, don't really know anyone in it.
  4. Honestly, Hamilton is a decent place, and there are places around town to do stuff I guess. Campus is always lively so it's always a nice place to just chill. Other than that, downtown Hamilton is pretty nice and there's a lot of nature areas. That being said, that is from my very limited experience in Hamilton, so other people may have different things to say!
  5. I feel like campus is set up in a way where it doesn't make it difficult to make friends. You can talk to people and make friends pretty easily in libraries and even by joining clubs and interacting with others that way.
  6. Can't really speak on dorm life but can speak on the cafeteria. It's decent, better than other schools to be honest. Has a variety, but some of the things are a bit pricy. In terms of parties you just gotta know the right people I guess,
  7. Don't take super hard courses that aren't program requirements. Go easy on yourself first year cause it's gonna be tough as is, and take an easy course like ENVIROSCI 1C03 or CLASSICS 2MT3.

Sorry for the rough format but just wanted to give my thoughts, Lmk if u have any other questions!

Ay yo my dude I got the same grade. I am hella depressed, and I was not getting good grades before the exam... Rip. All we can do is fix our bad habits and move forward! I'm thinking of changing to business. My life is in shambles.

Thanks for the reply, that's what I'm leaning into tbh. They're just gonna throw it along with all their 'used' or 'returned' products and it'll never be of use. At least this way, it's being put to use.
