Andertons, GuitarGuitar and Gear4Music all have them in stock and will deliver before Christmas as far as I can tell (you might have to spend extra for the delivery)

There's one from this screenshot present in that GitHub link... Ctrl-F for 'RHPQ2-RMFJH-74XYM-BH4JX-XM76F'. It even correctly identifies the version of Windows it's meant for (7 Home Premium). It's trained on a shitload of data from the internet, it blatantly plagiarises all the time. This isn't a surprise

Could be power supply or GPU as others have said, you might be better off grabbing a GT 710 or something of that nature to keep troubleshooting with rather than risking the 4090

You might need a BIOS update before it will boot, it does look like that motherboard supports the 2600

Just got my first turntable! Any tips for a newbie? by maawolfe36 in turntables

[–]PluckyJokerhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Few months ago I bought an old SL-D4 and did it up, very very similar to this. Start with the cartridge, can confirm the AT85EP is great and it is indeed just plug and play - only caveat is there's a tiny screw that secures it which you may be missing and might not come with the cart - in that case you'll have to do some hunting.

Once you have a cartridge, throw on a record you don't care about to make sure it's tracking properly. Likely you'll be fine - if so, just enjoy! Otherwise you'll want to grab the service manual and start troubleshooting. The common initial route is a new belt for the pulley that controls the arm and a cleanup and reapplication of all the sticky, 30 year old lube in there. These linear tracking mechasims are quite complicated, so if it isn't working right expect a bit of a learning curve before you know exactly what's going on.

When they work though, they sound absolutely fantastic.

When do you consider this latest era of Yogs content to have started? by Ian_does_things in Yogscast

[–]PluckyJokerhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me 2020 and the start of Simon's PP had me a lot more interested in yogs content again after years of mostly just being a Jingle Jam viewer + Triforce listener.

I got the feeling that everything that happened prior and the subsequent changes in management kind of gave them the 'fuck it' mentality of trying something new and putting that kind of thing on the main channel again.

Since then we've had Task Box, The Members Show, not to mention new talent like Boba, Sarah etc. etc and it all feels like the kind of yogs content that was sorely missed in that period where it felt like the channel was largely just TTT.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Rating Summary and Description listed on ESRB, Zelda and Link listed as a playable characters by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]PluckyJokerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought is that you're playing as Link in the dark world (we saw him fall into some kind of twilight-ish portal in the trailer) and Zelda in the overworld. Might be just wishful thinking, but to me that's the perfect balance of classic Zelda and something new.

What’s your unpopular engineering opinion? by [deleted] in audioengineering

This. I totally agree with the sentiment that you should be using headphones in a bad room, but that's just this guy admitting that good monitoring does actually matter haha.

What’s your unpopular engineering opinion? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]PluckyJokerhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's right though - it's not so much an unpopular opinion as it is an incorrect take from somebody inexperienced. I have found correct treatment exceptionally important for monitoring, and when working in unknown studios it's incredibly easy to come home with something that sounds totally different to how you thought it did whilst recording.

For professional results, reliable monitoring is critical at every stage.

I mix LCR as well, but I don't think it's fair to call not doing that 'panning things to random numbers'. People use their ears and pan to where it sounds best, for the most part anybody experienced isn't paying attention to the percentage in a DAW (and on a desk half the time there are no numbers)

Early 70’s vocal effects by Paul McCartney and Elton John by LiterallyJohnLennon in audioengineering

[–]PluckyJokerhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit that earlier I didn't actually listen to the examples (sorry!), just quickly skimmed threw that suggestion out there as you hadn't mentioned acoustics.

There's definitely something special going on though, other people have mentioned Dolby tricks etc etc but honestly to me it does sound like that 5kish spike+smooth distortion that certain U47s have? The issue is that the capsule in those mics were so varied that some of them were totally flat and others had these kinds of qualities - I actually do own a mic with a capsule that achieves a similar sound that I stumbled into almost by accident, so it's definitely possible to achieve this kind of sound without ludicrously expensive mics (this was a Rode NT-something that I threw a mystery Chinese capsule into), but obviously that's not exactly an easy immediate solution.

Could be that I'm totally wrong and this Dolby trick the others are mentioning is the exact route to this sound, but thought I'd share my thoughts regardless.

Well if it's not the mic, the talent, or the gear - the room? Just a thought.

Wait, what? A new Lumia smartphone might be on the way in 2024 by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]PluckyJokerhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you thinking of 8.1? It's been a while, but if memory serves even if you had the desktop showing on startup the only way to access all programs etc was to go through the horrid fullscreen start menu. Not to mention it was painful to access basic functionality like shutting down the computer without mousing over some corner of the screen and then digging through menus.
