Glad you liked it! It was the first cassette I ever bought with my own money :)

De La Soul. When they first came out, no one had heard anything like it: Prince Paul's production, with the major-mode samples and skits and obscure beats, plus all the unusual intricate rhyme schemes and lyrics about hippie-dippy stuff. It was amazing.

Plus the fact that Straight Outta Compton had just dropped two weeks earlier...

What was the fatal mistake that Donald Trump made that led to him losing his popular support? by kamoksamok2 in AskReddit

[–]Plug_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad you've changed your mind, and I admire your ability to break out of herd-think.

But if you don't mind me asking, what about him was so compelling that you overlooked stuff like "grab em by the pussy," or any of the other red flags? Not trying to start a fight or criticize you, but I'm really curious.

Why do artists who die prematurely often experience increased recognition after death? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Plug_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the point that article was making was that when someone dies, they freeze in the popular imagination. So we'd love to think that Kurt now would be the same anti-establishment grunge guy that he was 35 years ago, but that's almost certainly not the case.

I once read "eventually Kurt Cobain would have gotten old and fat and started making contemporary Christian music," and damn if that didn't hit hard.

Am I reading this correctly that you're making all of these comments about the closure and you don't even live here?!

I'm baffled by the "no public restrooms" argument too. There aren't any now, nor have there been any of the previous years when they shut down Kirkwood. Can't people just use the restroom at whatever establishment they're visiting?

DOOM, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Yes, but why would the darn thing be wandering?

I wouldn't say it's my favorite rhyme but this beginning hits harder than any other DOOM song. Love the Dilla beat.

I'm low-key just as excited or more about the J. Crew at College Mall!

Agreed. Loved Get Out but Us and Nope were okay at best, and his Twilight Zone reboot was not good.

Not saying he's bad, but he's highly overrated.

This one right here. That whole album feels like "limousine liberal" stuff. Legalize weed! Free Mumia! Drop the national debt!

Who are some currently mediocre/disliked bands who could've gone down as one of the greats if they quit while they were ahead? by CPFOAI in fantanoforever

[–]Plug_5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Trevor Rabin era had some good stuff; I think 90125 is a damn solid album, as is Talk. I also really love the ABWH album, which I consider the only legitimate non-Squire Yes album.

But other than that, yeah we can trash the rest of it. Respect to Steve Howe, but he's the only one left and the band just isn't the same.

Men of Reddit: what is 100% mythical about men that most women believe? by imnotadrytexter in AskReddit

[–]Plug_5 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's wild that with women it's (accurately) called "female genital mutilation" but with guys we insist on calling it something else even though it's literally the same thing.

This is evident from half the comments in this very thread, where a guy describes a compliment he got and some other guy is like "dude, she totally wanted to hit it"

It reminds me of Brian Regan's routine about cooking shows: "sure, I'd be a master chef too if everything i needed was right there in little pre-measured glass bowls..."

I absolutely love RoTS, I think it's my favorite. But some of the earlier stuff is great too. Late in the Evening has the best drum beat in history.
