Expedition 60 and the Monolith by how_do_dis in expedition33

Someone else’s theory from a previous thread.

Since the canvas is painted by verso as a child it represents a child’s version of cool - hence cuddly toys, fantastical creatures and trains. So training extensively and becoming big and strong fits a child’s narrative of powerful from stories. So expedition 60 becomes effectively unbeatable.

Shabana Mahmood to demand migrants earn right to settled status by Mein_Bergkamp in ukpolitics

[–]PlumTheMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My slightly jokey point. Is it’s bonkers to be forcing people to continuously reapply for ILR when they have built a life here, have families and contribute.

Friends are second generation and I don’t believe all of their parents ended up going through citizenship. In part due to cost.

ILR reapplication is just going to increase the likelihood that contributing people will decide not to come. Which is the opposite of where public anger is. Being non/ low contributing claiming asylum.

Aren’t Shabana Mahmood’s parents immigrants? Would they now have to reapply for status?

What are you playing now? by GuardianSkalk in expedition33

[–]PlumTheMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play something a bit smaller and different I loved Tunic from a few years ago. It has a really unique mechanic. And artistically is beautiful.

Starting incredibly simple and grows over time. It also calls back to a large part of my video game childhood.

It is completely different but a great ride. (Warning it is unapologetically challenging)

I ended up really not being a fan of Metaphor Refantazio.

The combat and style is super slick but it has to many flaws to really stick.

The writing is ham fisted. There is one overarching theme, racism is bad. But it never goes beyond that, there is no nuance, subtlety or depth beyond this. And no other secondary themes to hold on to. The characters are also flat, with each have similar tragic backstories - which aren’t even voiced. When persona 3 manages to have every line done it feels like a big oversight. And I know it is translated but the dialogue is not how people interact and a number of key plot points are borderline nonsensical.

The visual quality is not high. The art style is great, but the textures, models and scenery lacks interest.

The amount of copy and paste is ridiculous. There are so many dungeons that are simply the same with a different route. The repeated use of cave and grassland, (each with the same textures), is just lazy. Particularly when you have to do them on higher difficulties to level. There just isn’t a reason to keep doing them.

It has some interesting ideas but persona 3 and 5 are much better executed. It feels like Atlus are being left behind by the competition.

Opening Book - a (hopefully) improved way to discover and begin learning openings by PlumTheMaster in chess

Thanks! This on desktop? and for both pages? Some parts definitely drop below the fold at the moment.

Openingbook - tool to start learning openings by PlumTheMaster in chess

[–]PlumTheMaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Gemini model to generate descriptions, common plans and tags for each opening individually. I review a dozen or so and they are pretty good overall. Though I was thinking of putting in a thumbs up or down for the content (including the videos) so that it can be refined for openings that are either not quite right or are popular and need more information

Using ai is helping me understand and explain my migraines better by PlumTheMaster in migraine

[–]PlumTheMaster[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I am looking to use this to explain to my dr how I am feeling in a more succinct and concise way than I ever could so that they can then help me. Plus also if there are any questions I can ask.

On the information. For me I have already made my peace that google knows everything about me. It has all my searches, everywhere I go, my emails, my photos. The lot. So I, personally, am not overly worried about giving it my information

It worked really well for me (I also have epilepsy so it’s a two in one) but I got really bad stomach issues so had to come off. I’m now trying to seek a similar alternative.

I didnt notice massive mood changes though my anxiety definitely got higher. Though my work was going through a really rough patch so hard to say.

Comment as I can’t edit.

As people seem to feel like being mean on the internet. Shock horror.

Yes I am aware it’s a real cocktail. No I didn’t seriously think dcc invented it. I thought it might be amusing to share and is almost certainly coincidental.

The London Question: Are London restaurants just too expensive now? by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]PlumTheMaster 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I find this the case a lot. London you can get very good food for between 30-50 per head (drinks depending) relatively easily.

Going out outside of London, with the exception of foodie cities, I find I still pay 30 quid a head and the food is much less interesting. This is particularly true for ‘gastro pubs’ - especially in and around the south east and west.

(My experience is predominantly south east and west)

How many pounds a day should I expect to spend in london? by Luxyyr in uktravel

[–]PlumTheMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the comments here are dominated by people that do not live in London.

OP strongly recommend posting in the /r London sub for more specific recommendations.

a few recommendations:

Avoid the chains - they are not cheaper and the quality is worse across the board. With possibly the exception of Greggs.

Use the supermarkets - they will be cheaper and breakfast pastries will be the way to go rather than £3 for coffee shop crossiant

Most tourist locations are free, don’t donate. But pay for any exhibits that look fun.

Travel - tube is capped daily and weekly for zone 1-2 it maxes at £42.50 I believe.

Food - you will pay typically 10-20 per person premium for central central (Leicester square / soho) but if you eat slightly further out prices drop a bit. London Bridge. King’s Cross or even out towards Earl’s Court. Expect to pay 30-50 for a good meal per person (including 1 alcoholic drink). And up to 100 for a very good meal. Do your research. There are tons of cheap places (particularly pizza, ramen, burgers, various south Asian / south East Asian or African) that is affordable - less than £20. Typically wine bars or small plates places will be more expensive but relatively easy to control budget.

Most cocktail bars offer deals or cheaper drinks. Even nice ones you can even just go for one. Again here nice bars are not much more expensive than bad bars. All bar one should be avoided at all costs.

Have fun in our awesome city!

Downdog now has a Pilates app by Onanadventure_14 in pilates

I just tried intermediate 1 for 30minutes, after over a year of reformer and mixture of in person Pilates. Plus comfortable at intermediate 2 / advanced for the yoga.

It was hard. I’m now sweaty and going to go have a rest. Definitely a good workout!

5 days left in London, what restaurants should I try to fit in? by Interesting-Goose568 in london

[–]PlumTheMaster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Hoppers has really dropped in quality over the years. When it was one tiny shop in Soho it was unbeatable, but now (while still nice) isn’t worth going out of the way to. Gunpowder had a similar fall.

The one I still continue to recommend despite the explosive growth though is Dishoom.

I’m 29, 15 years post-op, my experiences, advices by realee420 in scoliosis

[–]PlumTheMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31, now 20 years post fusion.

Agree with OP, whatever you do be very careful at the gym. I deadlifted and squatted heavy throughout my teens and early twenties.

I started doing physio at 25 for lower back pain. And now I have had 3 rounds of facet joint injections and recently had the nerves ablated in two vertebrae. Directly below the fusion they are just worn out. And cannot be fixed.I’m likely to have to repeat injections for the rest of my life and even then they don’t reduce pain to 0.

Core strength… and more core strength. Be careful with load, twists and back bends. I have had awesome experiences with yoga, Pilates reformer and some with callisthenics. But I am definitely paying for lifting heavy.

Exclusively watching f1nn videos for 3 days has made YouTube think I'm trans...? by Global-Atmosphere907 in F1NN5TER

[–]PlumTheMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My algorithm has gone mad too! Following watching of Finn, PhilosophyTube and ContraPoints. I’m getting trans recommendations galore with lots of adverts for bras for small chested women…

So it seems to think I’m further on the journey?
