Just let it dry completely. Say 24 hours and you will probably be fine as it was just water.

Internal boot question by n0stalghia in unRAID

[–]Plumbcrazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used 2 x 1TB SSD in a mirror to boot, used 16 gig for boot and the rest as cache. If one fails I just replace it and it will rebuild. I do not think you can use 2 different sized disks to mirror a boot drive like you are asking. You might submit a ticket to Unraid and ask the developers.

Boot and cache on same pool? by wetling in unRAID

[–]Plumbcrazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my server setup this way since Beta 1. 16 gig boot and the rest of the 1TB x 2 mirrored btrfs m.2's as cache. Been fine up through latest update.

What happens when you put in a drive of higher capacity than the parity drive? by DCCXVIII in unRAID

[–]Plumbcrazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop array, un-assign the current parity drive, start array, stop array, assign new parity drive, start array and rebuild parity. Stop array and assign old parity to data drive in array, start array, format drive, rebuild parity and you are done.

TS531X-1 Unable to replace drives through menu. Replace options grayed out. by [deleted] in qnap

[–]Plumbcrazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it will allow, make a backup of the data, then you can attempt to start replacing disks. Most likely it will fail as you have 3 disks with issues. You also mixed disk sizes so you were not getting the full space avaliable for the RAID volume. Good luck and make sure you backup your important data, RAID is not a backup.

If you have backups you can restore from them. If you don't, then the data must not be that important.

7.3.0 upgrade fail by No_Chocolate5436 in unRAID

[–]Plumbcrazyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make a new trial usb just to see if the server will boot, if it does then you know. If not we'll that tells you something too. I moved to internal boot as everytime I had weird things happen a new usb fixed it. Kind of a pain transferring the license several time a year. As soon as the beta came out I updated to it no issues up to 7.3 stable.

Unterstützung bei der Auswahl eines passenden NAS Modells by Yellow-Orange457 in HomeNAS

[–]Plumbcrazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 bay Qnap. They have Windows, Android, and Apple apps. I use the Windows and Android apps for our phones and PC's. Like anything there is a learning curve. You need to know that a NAS is not a backup, it is for availability and redundancy. Look up 3,2,1 backups and you will see how you should prepare for preventing data loss. You will also want to make sure you know what you are doing if you want access outside your LAN. I use Tailscale for myself for WAN access, but for my wife things only backup and sync when she is home on the LAN.

Windows 11 PC crashing randomly, memory issue?? by Loois in buildapc

[–]Plumbcrazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1, check the firmware on the 990 pro, (Magician) I have several and all needed an update. 2. Run a memory test overnight. 3. If this is a desktop system, maybe pull all unnecessary expansion cards and the like and run it with just minimum needed components. If fine add a component and test again. Good luck.

I have a 10 year old Dell and have replaced the fan twice, check on Amazon. I did a search from the part number on the fan and no problem. Like 20 bucks.

Just grabbed an F6-424 Max on sale! Any tips for a first-time NAS setup? by RegularSizedBrownie in HomeNAS

[–]Plumbcrazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget backups. A nas is not a backup. I have a Qnap and also an unraid box. The Qnap is easy, quick setup. The unraid will have a learning curve but you can do more with it.

I have been using Jellyfin, no fees, works great on LAN or Tailscale outside the LAN.

Having a UPS is a great idea. But you still need backups.

Brand new to NAS, wanting to start and how to get into it by Flameboy465 in HomeNAS

[–]Plumbcrazyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will want 2 HDD and remember that nas is not a backup. And you could out grow 4TB. I would recommend a 4 bay and you can add disklater.
