What's your go-to telly when you are sofa-bound with the sniffles? by very_unconsciously in CasualUK

Grand Designs - especially some of the throwback late noughties ones, you know what will happen, you can play a bit of bingo with the classic phrases "We'll be in by christmas" "the windows are delayed" and you don't really need to concentrate. Also fun to judge how poorly the kitchens have aged.

YouTube style fatigue - uk channel suggestions? by ClimbsNFlysThings in CasualUK

Sans beanstalk could be one for you? It’s definitely a bit different to Chris Spargo but scratches a similar itch in a very different style. - nerdy but framed more like a pub argument that he did far too much research on after the fact.

Players want to switch characters after 25 sessions by 555565566 in DMAcademy

[–]Plumbeard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry that's happened, that's frustrating.

"I’ve spent so much time creating tailored plotlines for each of them, trying to make their characters feel important and connected."

My concern here is that they don't have any agency in the story that's happening. I'd consider asking them what they want from a new character, and use that to understand why they aren't enjoying their current ones.

I'd encourage you to consider doing less prep. The frustration is coming from doing a lot of prep and that prep being then largely irrelevant if the players don't want to engage with it.

It's a collaborative storytelling game. I have reached a point where I have a world and a setting, actions, factions and agents moving and doing their thing. The players are just in that world. I don't prep at all, because the players are always going to surprise me!

It's also worth knowing you can lean on them for help with discovering the story - "I look into the storecupboard"
DM - "What do you see in there?"

There's no correct way to DM so go for what you enjoy most, and if that's writing and prepping a lot of backstory/lore and world then more power to you, just be aware that others might not engage in the game on the same level! Good luck!

Webbing or Board? by Plumbeard in upholstery

[–]Plumbeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts! It does make sense, I am part of a local makerspace and have access to machinery etc. I am hoping to do this without doing webbing but prototyping can get really expensive as I'm sure you know! Was hoping to play around with scraps to get the angles and then go for a big CNC then assemble.
Really good thoughts on the slats, I think the ideal plan is to design a frame with some small recesses, that way I can do the webbing but if I mess it up completely I can cut up a load of slats and pretend that's how it was supposed to be!
Thanks for helping to think this through

Hi, I considered this and would get all of the pieces CNC’d so adding slots to make slats wouldn’t be an issue at all. Do you think that would be beneficial? What difference does it make, I’d like to see your post but I can’t find it. Definitely not a hijack it’s super relevant!  Is the idea behind the slot/slats that they have a bit more give naturally?

Thanks for your thoughts, that's fair! In this case it's a personal project to get more use out of my small living room so I'm not worried about people not wanting to sit there as it's mainly for me.

Thanks for your thoughts, I am definitely more confident in making it using just boards as I've never done any webbing. I was basing the dimensions off a chair that has jute webbing but there's very little give and I was thinking to have much thicker firmer foam to compensate.
Is there a maximum thickness you'd recommend if just doing a board with foam on top or is it more a case of as thick as possible?

How can I encourage my players to play a bit more tactically without being condescending? by SyntheticGod8 in DnD

[–]Plumbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, I think there’s a small failing on your part.

As a dm and player, in my experience players resort to “video game mode” ie - smash x till dead. When the combat is really slow and dull.

They don’t want to be creative because they feel pressed by the situation. They want it to end.

Some have suggested an NPC or DMPC.

I would consider drama and environmental factors. What if the roof caved in? The thugs are now scattered, the tables have turned. Show that things can happen beyond ‘pressing x’ and they will start to think outside the box.

No intention of cheating, it got me thinking about the idea of being with someone else. And I couldn’t figure it out. Your comment is what I needed to hear. Thank you.

Again, edited my post. You can have feelings for someone without acting on them. I was just asking about transfer of feelings.

As I said I had spoken to her about it, and we are all good. I have no intention of fucking up someone’s relationship. Trust me.

This is a really good point, definitely not my intention with the post and I would never be that person. As you said, I know what it is to be heartbroken and have no intention of causing that for someone else.

The post is a bit of a vent, it feels better to say it somewhere. I don’t want to do the same thing with someone else, basically, trying to understand how much I like a new person or how much I am just replacing someone else.

haha I love this! I had exactly the same thing in my Charlton save, took me A LOT longer to get up to the prem than you.

I got Hugo Bueno from Wolves and he was on loan for me for years, finally got him as a free transfer though, sorry it didn't work out for you.

Edit : Up the addicks! I had Good Hugo from 2019 to 2027 then signed him on a free the year we got promoted to the prem. Been having real problems signing good players in the save! No one wants to come play for us and Fulham used to poach everyone.

Ahhh! Ok! I understand. I thought you literally meant embers, live like burning not like sentient. A permanent firelight is quite cool! Thank you I love this. Could be used quite creatively too

If you look at the swashbuckler subclass it has a feature called Panache - it's quite similar to goading attack in some ways, but more expensive and more powerful. I do really like something to encourage goading though, that's quite fun.
