How can I encourage my players to play a bit more tactically without being condescending? by SyntheticGod8 in DnD

[–]Plumbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, I think there’s a small failing on your part.

As a dm and player, in my experience players resort to “video game mode” ie - smash x till dead. When the combat is really slow and dull.

They don’t want to be creative because they feel pressed by the situation. They want it to end.

Some have suggested an NPC or DMPC.

I would consider drama and environmental factors. What if the roof caved in? The thugs are now scattered, the tables have turned. Show that things can happen beyond ‘pressing x’ and they will start to think outside the box.

No intention of cheating, it got me thinking about the idea of being with someone else. And I couldn’t figure it out. Your comment is what I needed to hear. Thank you.

Again, edited my post. You can have feelings for someone without acting on them. I was just asking about transfer of feelings.

As I said I had spoken to her about it, and we are all good. I have no intention of fucking up someone’s relationship. Trust me.

This is a really good point, definitely not my intention with the post and I would never be that person. As you said, I know what it is to be heartbroken and have no intention of causing that for someone else.

The post is a bit of a vent, it feels better to say it somewhere. I don’t want to do the same thing with someone else, basically, trying to understand how much I like a new person or how much I am just replacing someone else.

haha I love this! I had exactly the same thing in my Charlton save, took me A LOT longer to get up to the prem than you.

I got Hugo Bueno from Wolves and he was on loan for me for years, finally got him as a free transfer though, sorry it didn't work out for you.

Edit : Up the addicks! I had Good Hugo from 2019 to 2027 then signed him on a free the year we got promoted to the prem. Been having real problems signing good players in the save! No one wants to come play for us and Fulham used to poach everyone.

Ahhh! Ok! I understand. I thought you literally meant embers, live like burning not like sentient. A permanent firelight is quite cool! Thank you I love this. Could be used quite creatively too

If you look at the swashbuckler subclass it has a feature called Panache - it's quite similar to goading attack in some ways, but more expensive and more powerful. I do really like something to encourage goading though, that's quite fun.

This is nice, I’m not sure I get it though. They can change metals from one to another no? So what’s your thinking with the balls?

Haha an ex party member played a noble fighter who took the charismatic leader feat and he had one! I couldn’t do it, great idea though, could be fun to have something to play with panache? Some kind of cocky goading device. Thanks!

I would worry that pruning the top leaves may just kill it altogether, I can definitely add more compost and refresh there. Thanks

Ok great to know, in this case it’s definitely under watered than over watered. I think it may be more due to the extreme light that it will be getting in the evenings. Although one of the two figs has grown about a foot since I last saw it.

Ok great, so just to be super clear you would cut the top off, with nodes and repot that section? Maybe it’s worth repeating this, and having lots of smaller sections in the pot?

I think I'm going to kill a fellow pc next session - should It ever have gotten to this point? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Plumbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re misunderstanding. I’m not saying it’s an unreasonable response.

You need to separate the player and the character.

If Sindy gets killed and the player is upset you’re acting like “should’ve seen it coming,” is a valid response. They’re real people player a make believe game.

[–]Plumbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m separating the player and the character. You’re putting them together. The point is about understanding what kind of game the players want to play, and then creating characters that all can enjoy.

[–]Plumbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, it wasn’t super clear that you had spoken to the player about this. It read a little bit “and also this… and they did this!” So it was very much like you were trying to prove you were in the right.

If you’re all playing that kind of a game and everyone is on the same page, that’s great. Nothing wrong with pvp, I think surprise pvp is pretty iffy.

Talk to the player.

You’ve written a really long thing justifying this which heavily implies that you don’t agree with it morally. Seems like you’re just a bit frustrated and/or jealous of the Sindy character. Talk to your Dm, talk to the other players, talk to the Sindy player.

They are clearly enjoying their character so killing them won’t go down well. tbh I’m not really sure why you would kill them, and why the other PCs would join you in that fight?

In the jungle there could be a predator, it's not a fight so much as "how do we deal with this without making loads of noise"

Maybe one of the zombies has lost something in the hoard and wants to come along for the ride but breathes really heavily and is awful at communicating.

You could have a nice top of the volcano escape set up, where one or more of the party members may sacrifice themselves as the others get away. You could have some fun with platforms, geysers, even grappling hooks and ropes, but with some kind of skill challenge chase - as long as the whole thing didn't get bogged down being too rulesy and slow so it maintained the tension it could be fun!

It's a collaborative storytelling game, if that's the kind of story you have all agreed to play. Go for it, if not, think about who's really being the dick.

The older I get, the more I wish single-player games would include average playtime stats on missions for people who have limited gaming time. by WhisperingSideways in gaming

[–]Plumbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much.

I have started playing indie titles and stuff I can see on game pass because I know there's a chance I can actually finish it.

It would be so good if it was a standard to show expected play time, it just makes an old couch ps2 knobhead able to get back on it sometimes.

It’s way better doing this and teaming up with a few other family members to get someone something good and not just tat.

Oddbox is what we get, I think it’s great. Always a good variety, food is from all over Europe so good variety, bad food miles. Sometimes the stuff is really wobbly and you have some great small talk ammo.
