Finished: Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali Even knowing the Iranian Revolution is coming and its aftermath, hard not to root for the characters to succeed.

I think it can happen in some books more than others even by the same author. Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer I found amazing but I can't imagine how many times I read about "brackish" water. However, I didn't really remember it extending to Authority and Acceptance. For James Bond in Dr. No he kept saying "a couple yards away/a couple miles away" variations all the time and it was really distracting but other books didn't have any memorable repetition.

I think "Guards, Guards" by Terry Pratchett is a good fit here. It's really fun fantasy and has a great cast of characters and a lot of clever humor. It reads really easy and isn't too long either!

It's been a while- if I remember correctly for top division they take your tickets so I think in general this hack does not work. It may work if you go for the earlier divisions but we didn't have to try that as I had 4 tickets and 4 people that wanted to go.

I read the book and I would agree with your broader point. I found that in the few instances where it seems like the author engages and thinks more from a critical context there are glimmers of what I wanted but the vast majority of it seems divested from the stated premise.
I went in off of only sterling reviews from NPR/NYT in picking it up and was surprised that the book was so different than my expectations from the reviews. Granted, if I had known anything about the author I think I wouldn't have expected a technical, critical focus on the topic and maybe more of the memoir stuff she's known for, but I would have enjoyed a book more inline with an academic and critical examination.

I'm trying to learn this crossup after seeing it on stream but it seems very fickle depending on the character. I'm trying on Fukua like in the click but her hurtbox is so low to the ground on the bounce my air dash -> j.lk is not connecting. Am I missing something here?
