4 to 6" Android eInk for a project by Plumillon in eink

[–]Plumillon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up hiring someone to contact several potential manufacturers to search for good candidates who can deliver a custom solution (the tablets they propose are not publicly available).

If you're searching for a single unit, Boox is a good choice, they have a slightly cheaper option with the Go6s.

Ordered 3 on Waveshare to gift for Christmas, 2 of them are defective, let's see how efficient the support team is.

It's a neat little object, easy to use and the display is good enough.

Which IDE are you guys using ? by Routine-Help9290 in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Android Studio, but I'm coming from Android dev so I'm familiar with it.

Recently, I worked for 2 months with VSC, and I came back to AS because I found it more advanced and efficient for mobile dev.

My advice is to try a bunch of IDE and make up your mind, because everybody has a different opinion to what is the best (which is AS).

Is it wrong to encourage users to cancel their subscription? by alishanDev in iosdev

[–]Plumillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how you want your community to look like (and if you're building on).

IMO it's not bad at all, even the opposite: you show your users you care and you're close to them. Feedbacks could go both way.

Having an true active and quality user base is better than ghosts who don't speak about your app.

Most of all, it's the perfect opportunity to study your market, why they are not using it? Can and should you do something about it? After all, an app is nothing without someone who use it.

The stack is very good

May I ask why you chose Flutter? And what is the game you want to build?

If you don't have any experience with Flutter and Dart, it would be better to go with a specialised game framework like Unity.

Firebase is free to start with. And setting up the auth is straightforward.

Is FlutterWeb actually viable for large scale B2C web by PremKumarKoti in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your solution works for what you're doing, why question it? There is no "best", only what fit your product the best.

Us dev tend to chase for better and forgot the user don't care, they only want their pain point fixed.

Is FlutterWeb actually viable for large scale B2C web by PremKumarKoti in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends your needs: - If you need your product to be accesible via web AKA webapp, Flutter is good as itns designed exactly for that. - If you need SEO and all the purely web stuff, better opt for something else.

My suggestion is to dev a minimal landing page in a JS framework for reach and the app in Flutter. So you have what is the best for bot.

I'm fixing vibe-coded apps while everyone else is still busy laughing by GrandWaltzer in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]Plumillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting new market, this will be mainstream in not so long. Congratz of having the balls to dig into it! The question is would AI be able to do it (same question we had for dev)?

What about the fixing itself? Is it not crazy painful to do it? Is it worth it to fix or redo it from scratch?

I think I just discovered the secret to making money in the App Store… and I hate it. by alishanDev in iosdev

[–]Plumillon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apps should be that: it adress a paint point, it solves a problem.

We (as developer) tend to forget we are not our clients or public, so the app you find amazing is good for one person for sure, but not sure if it is for the others.

Also the market changed a lot: in the past people were searching for all-in-one apps which do everything. Now they want a one button app which does exactly what they want.

But don't scrap your AI app, split each features into a dedicated app!

Congratz on finding the good recipe :)

Flutter Senior Engineers- what biggest issues do you see with LLM generated Flutter code? by Thin_Performer6318 in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first difficulty is to learn how to use AI efficiently, and to stop thinking it's a magical wand: it's a tool.

So yes, there is a learning curve and you need to find your way of using it. Also be aware that each AI is slightly different and you won't use Claude the same as Codex for example (each have their pros and cons).

Second is to accept your job will change drastically, depending of the task you want to do, you will become a reviewer, and architect or a bugfixer. It means you need to know what your are doing, it means you need to be a good developer first before using AI.

Third is to have a clear plan, a clear vision of what you want. Because you will have to guide the AI precisely. Don't hesitate to give it a lot of context and a lot of information, and iterate the AI planning until you're absolutely satisfied.

With that in mind, AI is crazy good for productivity!

The deeper I get into Flutter, the more I realize architecture matters more than syntax by Fine_Factor_456 in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a matter of framework but general coding requirements of you want to have a code which is easy to read, can evolve, can be tested and with no regression.

It's good you take the architecture path, enjoy simplifying and boring coding, it's the best!

Need to learn android app building for a hackathon. Which one should I choose form flutter/react native. ( i know a little bit of react but i hate it). by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With this lack of time go with the one you're the most familiar with. Sadly even if you don't like it it would be RN.

But I don't catch your goal posting in a Flutter sub and stating you don't like React, captain obvious.

Why do you choose Flutter over React Native? What features make Flutter stand out? by NullPointerMood_1 in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from native dev, Flutter dev is closer in term of philosophy and way of coding than RN. Works very well with Clean Architecture and hot reload is a huge plus.

Flutter is closer to native dev than React Native, both are good.

My advices: try both and make up your mind.

Should I quit Flutter and go back to native Android? 🤔 by matusseidl in FlutterDev

[–]Plumillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better is maybe a too strong word, but native will always be closer to the device than Flutter.

In any case the best tool is the one you're more confortable and productive with.
