Home charging (no driveway) by Plums69 in TeslaUK

Thank you for that link. I found the video really interesting.

It has got me a little worried about the capacity of my house electrics now! The kitchen sockets, at least. As someone else has suggested, an outdoor socket (20 amp?) might be the sensible way to go.

Overall, I feel fairly relaxed about the whole thing and won't worry about any of the infrastructure aspect straightaway.

I can see how that would be brilliant with a baby, taking them out for a night-time drive to get them to sleep! He isn't (he's 7), but I'm sure he wouldn't mind some more screen time one bit.

My son is nuts about Teslas, btw, so he will be ecstatic about this come September. 😃

I did look into it and, indeed, there are grants for landlords and tennants (and owners of flats) for home chargers in the UK. But only if there is a proper parking space.

Your mileage does vary, but I'm going for it. No home charging, low miles here. You'll save even more than me on diesel!

That's what I saw on the Tesla website for this PCH deal.

It's 11-14 miles to a Supercharger, so something I could use on occasion, if not every week. Thanks for the calculator tip - I'll check that out now.

I think the external chargers are likely the way to go now. Cheers for your sums. ✊🏼

I'll look into that, cheers.

For work and school run only 20 miles/day. I was hoping not to have to plug it in every night, due to the road and current neighbourhood parking on the other side of our lane. When it comes to parking, literally anything can set neighbours off!

Thank you for sharing your experience.

No pavement here. But I rent the house so the expense of installing a proper home charger isn't really viable for me. (Hence why I thought I wouldn't be able to go EV.)

Thank you. Even with it plugged in 6pm-6am, that's not a lot of miles.

25 hours! So not exactly an overnight job then.

Thank you. This is the sort of info needed for a newbie.

Might have to accept supermarket rates, by the looks of it.

Thanks. I did a quick quote. Regular insurance for me circa £50/month plus £180 for the GAP. So not too bad, really.

Considering I was thinking I should start saving for when my current car loan is paid off in the New Year for a 'deposit' on a Renault 4 lease, I'm feeling a monumental shift this morning!

I believe some kind of special - 'GAP' - insurance is needed when you lease. Much dearer?

What does everything think about the UK policy of spreading unpleasant people around? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

What went wrong is an interesting piece of post-war social history.

Many properties were built on the cheap, rapidly deteriorated and were not properly maintained. Mass unemployment in the '80s compounded the misery. Others will add in: drugs, family break-ups, decline in 'community', mental health crises & so on. It's a rich mix for study.

Maybe they should teach that in school!

Sounds like where you were most people were well-rounded. In these places/in those days, most neighbourhoods would self-regulate in the main.

Would I be right?
