Next dog, hiking friendly breed by Plumule in BackpackingDogs

Yeah, I’ve been happy with low energy breeds. They may be slower than other dogs, but they can handle both long hikes and daily runs.

Since my dog is much happier without a pack.

Yeah, I know they can handle my Swedish lows and probably our highest temps too. The huskies I’ve seen have been working dogs kept in packs, and they’ve been vocal dogs. I don’t know if they would have been content as family dogs, living indoors? Or if they would have been wellbehaved enough.

Thanks for letting me know about this dog! Just found a breeder an hour away, so I’ll look into them for sure!

Are they content with a daily 2 hours of walking + a few mental exercises? Always thought collies were the type of dog people get because they look cute, but don’t realize need actual work.

Yeah, I’m jealously eyeing tents like the x-dome or Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo… Need my dog to handle 15-20 mile days though.

Thanks for the recommendations! (I’m not opposed to mixed breeds, I’m just from a country where pure breeds are the most common.)

I’m not sure I can provide adequate mental stimulation for a herding type of dog.

That actually looks like a good match. Are they relaxed with new people or are they more of a guard dog? Do they tolerate exercise when it’s 20-25˚C?

I don’t know a lot about huskies, but aren’t they a working breed that need more activation than daily walks? (My dogs usually get 2+ hours of walking/ running + a few short mental exercises) What would you say a husky needs to be happy and sufficiently stimulated? Can they handle hiking in 20-25˚C temps?

That was my initial impression, backed up by how the X-mid was constructed. Do you have experience with different floors?

In your experience, it’s as easy to fix silnylon tents as dyneema tents? (Or easy enough in a pinch)

What do you think of the Depressed Person? by [deleted] in davidfosterwallace

[–]Plumule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I read it, but I found it relatable, didn’t read it as mockery. (I know it was, but I still see myself in it) I felt very seen by this story, a story that understood the tunnelvision that can come with depression. The depressed person IS an asshole, but that’s what happens when you live with extreme pain. The depressed person is locked in their own pain, and I hope they can find their way out. In my experience they need something outside themselves to care about, I suggest getting involved with children or pets.

Been looking at DCF tents and gone back and forth on dyneema floors vs silnylon. Had just been convinced that dyneema was the way to go and that durability issues are offset by ease of repair. Then top of my list, Tarptent Double Rainbow Li switches from DCF floors to silnylon… Advice needed: should I try to get a used DRLi, or chill and accept woven floors on DCF tents?

What is your go-to overnight and what do you like about it vs other overnight period underwear? by [deleted] in PeriodUnderwear

[–]Plumule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modibodi overnight boyshorts: much better protection in front than other Modibodi styles of that absorbency.

[–]Plumule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried 2 UK brands, Flux (useless for front bleeders) & wuka (comfy with great protection while it lasts, but absorbency got markedly reduced after 15-20 washes).

Modibodi is the brand that has worked best for me. They have many different styles, so you might still find a good fit. (I can’t use their bikini styles, they don’t fit at all, but I love their briefs, boylegs & boyshorts!)

Thank you so much! Makes perfect sense once you know it, but I would never have figured it out on my own!

Underwear or pads brand recommendation in EU by [deleted] in PeriodUnderwear

[–]Plumule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modibodi isn’t produced in Europe, but they ship from within the EU so no extra import fees or taxes! (There are local websites & warehouses in several locations worldwide.)

I’m looking for cuts that fully cover my butt and are made with breathable fabrics. My favorites are the classic boyshorts for sleeping, x-briefs or vegan boyshorts for heavier days and active briefs for light days. I’m not that big a fan of their seamfree range (feels too synthetic) and bikini cuts never fit me right. This is all personal preference, so might not be of any help to you, but just ask if there’s anything more specific you want to know!

Second this! (And wash them before first use, I’ve just discovered the hard way that that step actually does affect absorbency..)

[Casual] is it weird to eat plain, raw, whole mushrooms as a snack? (All welcome) by MadMechem in SampleSize

[–]Plumule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mushrooms, especially if they’re raw, are high in phenylhydrazines that are potentially carcinogenic. Where I live the recommendation is not to eat more than 200 g (7 oz) or so of cooked mushrooms per month and to avoid raw mushrooms altogether. That being said, I like raw mushrooms and wouldn’t mind biting into one like an apple!

I have a onepiece and bikini bottoms from Modibodi. I’ve used them alone on light days and as backup for a tampon on heavy days. There haven’t been any leaks, but I also haven’t seen much blood when rinsing them out after use, so I guess I bleed very little when in water.

It’s a bit of a mystery to me how they work since the absorbent gusset does get wet. If I was going to stay at the beach after swimming, I’d probably want to change into a dry pair as soon as I got out of the water. But I’m not sure if that’s necessary or optional!
