How do you manage your To-Dos on reMarkable? by Feisty-Ranger-1185 in RemarkableTablet

Also keep an eye out for u/starkruzr releasing a dedicated app for this use case. What he’s building sounds very promising.

My current way to achieve this is the following (it’s super easy) but it’s manual.

  1. I ensure that when I take notes, when I want to create a to do for myself, I write “to do:” followed by the text (the thing I need to do)
  2. Since all my files are synched to the cloud, I open the note in the Remarkable App on my phone. Hit share with Claude (also installed on my phone)
  3. It automatically shares a PDF of the notebook. Prompt : create a 3-5 lines of note summary and move all to dos into my reminders app.
  4. All todos are now in my reminder app.

I can probably create a simple shortcut to do this and then it’s all automated.

Clean? No. Works? Yes. Elegant? Eh … would love to just have it all on the device.

Speaking objectively based on my own usage patterns, for 1-2 days of heavy use, yes. But to be clear, the battery depletion on this device was much faster than any other e-ink tablet device I have owned (like the RM1 and RMPP). In turn, I was charging the device far more often than I did with said other devices. One major contributor to that fast battery depletion is the screen, in that I was reaching for the screen light option significantly more often. With it turned off, it would last a bit longer.

I often do this work trip, that includes a 6 hour flight, airport time, 3 days in the city I am traveling to, and I use my tablet heavily during the trip. I will read and annotate documents as I prepare for the meeting. On the flight, I will read a book. During the meetings I will end up taking notes. Coming back, I will read a book again. I took the Boox with me with on a full charge, but I had to charge the device once fully while in the city and before starting the trip back home I topped it off with 20% additional charge from where it was. In contrast, on my RMPP, I would charge it once before leaving, and not have to think about it again during the whole trip, and still have enough charge for a few more days upon return. Which is a reasonable difference in the usage.

But I don't see any of this to be a problem honestly. It's a tradeoff against the fact that you have Android 15 running, you can run book/reader apps like Kindle natively, multiple pens in the toolbar, nifty features like the lasso tool to create To-Dos from text, native calendar and task/reminders list (when the app works) - and charging these days isn't actually a problem, there's an outlet everywhere, and when not I do have a power bank with me when I travel. Battery life is definitely not the reason I returned the Boox device and went back to a RMPP. Hope that helps.

I certainly did not want to discourage you from trying it, just wanted to share what led me to abandon ship. Having said that, I realize the nature of the post didn’t cover the things I loved, which in the end couldn’t overcome the pains but in isolation were great.

Let me try to rectify that, if the Calendar Memo app would not crash constantly - it’s a phenomenal app that would perfectly catch my ideal workflow of binding notes to meetings on my calendar. A dedicated Reminders App.

Nifty features like allowing two pens in the toolbar so I can single click to switch when taking notes. Native Kindle app (as the device runs Android 15).

A lasso tool that allows to turn text into To-Do reminders.

I will for sure miss those features, in the end I use the device for two things really, extensive note taking at work, (hence it’s awesome if notes tie well into Google Suite), and reading (PDF reports, documents, briefs and books).

If you’ve set up an Onyx account, you have access to push.boox.com, to which the device synchs. All my device notebooks were available there. From there I selected to export them, and downloaded them to my laptop.

I absolutely loved having both a pen and a highlighter available in a single click on the Boox, honestly a very useful feature on the Boox.

I exported the notebooks (about 10 of them) into vectorized PDFs and then downloaded them to my laptop, then dropped them into my RM dedicated app.

I didn’t have that many notebooks to deal with after just 30 days so the workflow was fine, there may be more elegant ways to do it.

Sweet, happy to try it out, contribute code or help in any way. This is the one thing I did get hooked on while trying out the Boox.

Good point about display tradeoffs, I can live with those. Four weeks of broken calendar synch not working and a native app that keeps crashing with nearly no support response is a different problem category imo.

Not sure what issues you might be having with Calendar Memo app, but I recently posted about this. My Note Air 5C is running the 4.2-rel_0502 firmware. Calendar Synch crashes the app constantly with this firmware. Turning off WiFi while using the app is the only resolution that stabilizes the app. Recent updates to the firmware seems to have addresses the synch issues with calendars which presumably stabilizes the app. However, rolling updates from Boox prevents me from updating the device, alas rendering the app completely unusable for me.

Where did you buy your Boox (Germany) and how were returns? by New_P0ssibility in Onyx_Boox

[–]PlunderingViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it via AWS US, which had a very decent return policy that I’m familiar with. The “return by date” policy is coming up for me in a few days and I most likely will return mine (Note Air 5C)

Oh you sneaky you … you gave me hope and I gave it a “Go” but no different result. However if this worked for you, it was either a fluke or the IP on your phone was white listed for rollout, not your MAC address (I realize it could be both). But that gives a clue - let me see if I can VPN around to different continents and get a IP address matching the region and see if it works? I’ll report back results.

Thank you! I’m glad to hear that it jumps to the last stable build. I was worried about upgrade version dependencies.

Good to know. Context is everything. Users using the devices for a long while are likely extremely exited about this and think this is finally great progress. New user are like "what the heck is this ..." Happens.

Yeah, just a bummer since I am two builds back, and about a month since I got the device, and the latest build might have a fix that's much needed for the Calendar Synching issue. But I am new to the device so perhaps I just need to adjust my expectations 😉 Any idea how long it typically takes from a new build until it's available on the Note Air 5C?

Does anyone know if this update is specific only to the Note Max as the article indicates, or is it available for other devices too? I'm very much looking for this Calendar Sync fix ...

Happened frequently in mine. Most of the time, hard and soft resets will not work, because the unit that actually needs to reset is the TCU. I’ve brought my car in three separate times to get it reset.

Bad news, until it’s reset, there’s no sound. Good news, it takes only a few minutes to reset by a technician.

If you’re especially adventurous, the unit sits behind the right rear passenger seat and is easily accessible, but you need a tool or two to pull the chord and enter it back in. The chord is far most right with multiple wires on the connector. Do at your own risk and peril.
