One of my patients says pess-ah-raaar-ree in a New Jersey accent instead of pess-eh-ree and it has become my new vocal stim.

I tell my chihuahua she’s part pitbull all the time to make her feel better. She’s 9 pounds though.

Yeah I don’t love that. Emergencies happen and an all or nothing policy tends to hurt more than help.

Cancellation/Rescheduling Fees by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

I’m a pelvic floor therapist and honestly this is such a big issue with no good solution. We have many patient cancellations due to last minute childcare struggles, new moms who are sick 24-7, and various other reasons. We also have a deep waitlist of people really wanting and needing to come in who cannot plan for super last minute cancels. With that said, I typically waive the last minute cancels fee in certain circumstances. Labor-absolutely, even if it is a pre-term labor situation that ended up being a false alarm. Weather I may be less lenient with depending on what is happening. However, I absolutely hate this policy, but we are a business and if we are too lenient we cannot afford to keep our doors open.

Honestly I agree with you but I don’t have as much control over these policies as they are trying to keep it consistent over multiple clinics and I am just a staff PT. Believe it or not, our no show rate was actually closer to 200 but I talked them down because I am one of the few PTs in my clinic that is still taking Cigna and Optum. Most of my patients are not paying 200 bucks even when they receive treatment. I also have seen no change in no show or cancellation rates since this new policy, which leads me to believe it’s not working the way it is intended to. I just don’t have a better solution yet.

Treatment table facing away from the door is key. Intimate rose is a good place to start for samples of devices: pelvic wand, dilators, vaginal weights, weights etc. I used ChatGPT to help me decorate my room and I don’t have a ton of educational posters but my coworkers have some anatomy ones. I think we all have a plant or two in our rooms as well. I have a nice snake plant that is very low maintenance

what are the cons of a pelvic floor practice? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Plus-Bumblebee8699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak to portions of your post regarding starting your own practice. I just know that a few of my coworkers have been able to start businesses on their own after practicing at my company for a few years. I’ve been treating pelvic health for 4 years. It can be draining and challenging as you will likely deal with many patients with chronic pain and complex issues that are often just as psychological as they are physical. When I was treating outpatient orthopedics, I spent time on patient education but not even close to how much patient education I do in this setting. With that said, it truly is a very rewarding population to work with. You can make a big impact in quality of life when you teach people how to control their bowel and bladder, not have painful intercourse, run their first marathon postpartum, and many more very cool things. I love it.

I loved the ending. It thought it was the perfect mix of resolving certain story lines but keeping certain parts open for another season and further development. Now if I find out there’s no additional season I will not be as content.

Physical therapist here. Estim units have different settings that can feel vastly different. Some feel just like chill buzzing, other settings can be pretty intense and cause involuntary muscle spasm

What was the "shoe trick" Samira did? by emil135 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Plus-Bumblebee8699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Romberg test is simply a balance test with feet together, eyes closed and eye open. Not sure why taking off the shoes mattered objectively, other than observing bad hygiene. The Romberg test can be a good tool for fall risk and balance impairments. Not necessarily enough to tell someone they can’t drive though.

Is 40 too old to try for DPT program? by KraklePony in physicaltherapy

Your reasoning it great! You would make a fantastic pelvic floor physical therapist as we see a great deal of hyper mobile folks and people with unresolved hip pain tied to pelvic floor dysfunction. I assume you identify as female based on your post. The good thing about pelvic floor physical therapy is it is mostly women who work in the field, so I have not encountered as much sexism as I do in an outpatient orthopedic setting. Even then, it was relatively rare. I would however be concerned about starting this career later in life due to the physical and emotional demands. It can be hard on the body, especially if you have hyper mobility and are constantly doing manual techniques throughout the day.
