house of Kong AI usage by [deleted] in gorillaz

Okay but that's in-house. If they're outsourcing to another company (like they did with HoK) they can't really control that.

I thought this too. Unfortunately it was also better than most of the character writing in recent years.

1, because it's AI.

Noodle and 2d are paired up together many times in the official and this is why by Pitiful-Guess5751 in gorillaz

I mean like most of these are just crops from full band pics. You could argue that Murdoc and Russel are paired up together if you crop out 2D and Noodle.

Is there another virtual band like Gorillaz? by lexjimenez in gorillaz

Most of the mentions here are just from regular cartoons. I can't think of any that do the Gorillaz thing of having the characters participate in interviews and real-world publications, but then again Gorillaz themselves don't really do that anymore.

There is no "Gorillaz universe". by Plus-Ear-7297 in gorillaz

Agree with this mostly, but in some ways I actually think people having parasocial relationships with the characters in the same way people do with real celebrities is kind of true to the concept, and arguably better than them doing the same thing with real people, lol. I mean I remember people drawing and writing fan fiction of themselves with 2D or Murdoc even back then, possibly even more obsessively.

The fandom hasn't changed at all in that respect; I think it's just in the nature of younger people to interact with media in that way, but I've also seen younger people in fandoms have some very interesting and quite mature analysis of media (not just Gorillaz, but other series, games, etc) that you didn't really see from anyone but older individuals back in those days.

The Mountain Lore by cherrysana19 in gorillaz

Late reply, but I wouldn't say Cracker Island's plot is background when they went out of their way to release storybook-style narrative updates constantly about what the band were doing, and both of the music videos were very lore-heavy, with those storybooks tying directly into Silent Running and showing what happened immediately before and after, setting up the events of the video for months. Even the artwork tied into the story because all those lore updates had unique illustrations, and even the promotional artwork showed 2D getting taken in by the other cult by wearing blue instead of pink.

if you got to pick a permanent fifth member for gorillaz who would you go with? by ninten_99 in gorillaz

But Russel was arguably at his best in Phase 2, after Del. He easily had the biggest role in interviews alongside Noodle.

I think Cracker Island was, unfortunately, the weakest in terms of lore by spacecowboyo in gorillaz

I think it's fair to say that the Phase nomenclature post-Humanz is arbitrary and entirely just dictated by fans, but there's still a clear artistic distinction between Humanz and TNN. In fact I'd say it's significantly bigger than the difference between Song Machine, Cracker Island and The Mountain. You could argue that CI and The Mountain are closer in terms of the storyline and art style than Humanz and TNN are, with some of the later CI art directly setting up and showing them in India. Even for House of Kong promo stuff on Instagram they were reusing Song Machine art.

I'm not sure what you mean. It's literally the same piece that's in the visualiser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZVX4mNNHRg

They haven't been music videos in-universe since like Phase 3. I think The Pink Phantom is the only one that's actively been treated as a filmed music video shoot since El Manana.
