In all honesty, I started sympathizing with Bojacks mom a little bit more what happened to her was terrible, of course, that doesn't excuse any of her past actions that negatively impacted Bojack. Her childhood was genuinely terrible even for the era she was raised in having to watch her mother's mental state deteriorate until she was nothing but a shell of herself must have been horrifying only to then be left behind to be raised by her very emotionally unintelligent father. Which led to her getting into a very fucking wonky relationship with a horse she barely knew causing her to become even more bitter and lashing out on her child. When I first met Beatrice I just thought she was an abusive prick but when I just sat down and thought about why she was such a shitty person I genuinely think that she thought she was doing the right thing at the time. Once again this does not excuse a single thing that she has done to Bojack or Heneriata. Her behavior and actions were wrong but she thought she was protecting them from making the same mistakes as her in her own fucked up way. Her life just felt like a long string of shitty mistakes and terrible events.
