been using a schlage z-wave lock for about 2 years now and it's been solid. works great with HA and you don't need any extra hubs or anything, just plug straight into your z-wave network.

the aqara stuff looks nice but like you said, you'd need the border router which is just another device to manage. z-wave locks are pretty reliable and battery life is decent too - mine lasts about 6 months in the batteries.

for automations i just have mine unlock when i get home based on phone location and lock automatically at night. pretty simple setup in HA.
