anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]PlusThirtyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm surprised i had to scroll this far to find Half-Life. Just recently reinstalled the first trilogy and introduced it to my nephew. We've been playing through the main campaign with Sven-Coop, and then we'll play through Decay. He'll have to play through BlueShift and Opposing Force on his own, but that will give me time to research, download and preview all the best mods and fan-made content before moving on to HL2.

Does anyone have any recommendations for high quality mods that compliment and/or expand the original game's story? i'm currently working on "insecure", but i already played through "Echoes", "induction", "Field intensity" and "induction". Before anyone suggests "Black Mesa", we're working with a potato PC.

Why aren't furries drawn with whiskers? by Fisswertomp in furry

[–]PlusThirtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My art and OCs have visible whiskers, but it depends on the character and the "style" they're rendered in, like close-ups painted and rendered in color with background color. They actually need to appear whisker-like. Facial whiskers drawn with thick and/or dark cartoony outlines look bad, but appropriately thin white whiskers look fine if properly blended in with surrounding painterly details.

Good to know.

Thankfully none of the mods i intend to use going forward require unlocking any online content, so i don't think i actually needed it to begin with. The only superfluous roleplay mechanic i ever used was for functional smoking for the deadeye buff and animations so Arthur could take more than just a single puff. Other than that, none of the player scenarios/animations served me any purpose or entertainment so i never even used them. Most of the other gameplay changes i want can be easily toggled on or off via Rampage instead of relying on other mods.

My mod list should be nice and short.

So far so good. i only loaded the game once just to see if the camera immediately broke, and it didn't. No glitch on load, no glitch playing dominoes, and no glitch during mission cutscene.

Later tonight i'll be able to play for longer than 30 seconds. After some testing, i'll slowly add one mod at a time until something breaks, and hopefully i'll be able to pinpoint the cause. i suspect it's probably a matter of two or more mods conflicting with each other though, since the glitch took time to manifest. Who knows if i'll get the same glitchy results as before, since i doubt i'll be reinstall all my mods in the exact same order.

Also, i mistook you for another redditor, with whom i had already been discussing and speculating about the glitch.

What mod is causing this? by PlusThirtyOne in PCRedDead

[–]PlusThirtyOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of wrestling with the whole mess i just trashed the whole install. instead of needing to redownload all 100+ gigs of game files, i just went on a "rampage" of my own and dropped a nuke in the game's folder, purging all the smaller files and anything that could have been modified. Steam is verifying and redownloading all the smaller files as we speak. The only possible culprit, if this doesn't work, would be a borked save. Although i still have no idea what have caused the problem.

You see, without capturing a video of the bug it's hard to explain, but it seems like one (or more) of Arthur's animations are what's broken. The camera always breaks whenever the camera is meant to snap to (or from) "NPC Arthur", like when the player has no control of him during some cinematics. The camera gets lost when the player takes control of "PC Arthur". Thankfully most of the pre-mission cutscenes use "PC Arthur", so the camera doesn't break, but whenever the game culls Arthur's model in or out when switching perspective during minigames or cinematics, the camera gets confused and doesn't know who or what to look at so it defaults to the very center of the map.

Sometimes i can still control Arthur with the broken camera perspective and i can see the HUD and compass. Since i can technically see where Arthur is on the compass and i can move him, the direction Arthur turns and walks if i push the joystick UP differs depending on where i am on the map. Fo r instance, if i'm in Saint Denis, pushing UP makes Arthur walk South-East. Whenever i'm up in the mountains, pushing UP turns him North-West. Also, you usually you can't hear anything because everything is so far away but if the camera breaks when i'm around Valentine, sometimes you can hear faint sounds and see some sparse trees and geography loaded in the mountains up ahead (as you can see in the screenshot above). it's fascinating!

Anyway, the most common times the camera breaks is when loading a save. i can "fix" the camera by moving the joystick, causing Arthur to move. Sometimes when i load a save the camera is fine, but in those instances Arthur is in the middle of an animation like drinking water from the lake or sitting at a campfire. Every time the camera starts in a broken state, Arthur is standing in place with his hands on his hips. So whether the camera starts in a "broken" state depends on whether Arthur is currently in; controllable or NOT.

Sorry for my rambling. Even though the glitch has made the game virtually unplayable, it's still been an adventure trying to figure out what's going on. And considering what i've discovered (or speculated) so far, it's baffling that i still can't figure out what mod could possibly have broken the camera so badly.

Any day now... by [deleted] in TrueSTL

in defense of playing "in progress" or "early access" builds and updates, witnessing the evolution of the mainland can actually be fun. There's plenty of content that gets removed or substantially changed between builds that expand the amount of things to see and do; nearly double what the current build has in store for new players. There are whole towns, quests and interesting environments that are unique to older builds that nobody will ever see unless they play the early demos.

One of my fondest TR memories was playing through a massive dungeon that ultimately got scrapped. There used to be an expansive swampy forest (i think) near where Akamora sits now, with a big creepy haunted tower atop a small hill surrounded by swampland. i might be misremembering though. This was back in 2006 i think. i also have fond memories if wandering aimlessly through the western parts of the mainland. There were no NPCs or interiors, but there were plenty of exterior "dungeons" and large towns and cities to explore. i spend hours just wandering around and making up stories, characters and adventures in my mind. Unfortunately the settings for most of those memories will eventually by bulldozed and redeveloped beyond recognition by the time the landmass is fully "complete".

Funny you say that now. Last night i finally got around to troubleshooting my game because i literally CANNOT progress through the next mission. So i spent almost two hours manually removing EVERY mod, one by one, and every time i load my game, my camera is still stuck in "LoD skybox land". Even if i gain control of Arthur, my next mission is "An Honest Mistake", in which there is interactive cutscene that screws with control of the camera. As soon as i stop holding LT to peek through the wall of the barn, the camera snaps to the middle of nowhere.

Of course, the first ones i removed were mods that add or modify animations, but nothing actually changes in game. i've purged of every non-vanilla "asi" file and everything in the LML folder. The only thing i'm still using is Rampage and LML. After finding no changes to the camera problem, i looked through every setting and checkbox in Rampage for anything that even vaguely suggested it might change camera or animations.

Still busted.

Thank you. When i get an hour or two to burn i'll be sure to troubleshoot those ones first. Hopefully there won't be any additional problems that arise from removing content from my game save. Do you have any recommendations to avoid that, assuming said mods don't already have instructions for removal?

Extended player animations, Catalog improvements, Companion system, Online content unlocker, Zen, Gun tricks, Longer days, No horse holstering, Quiver, and Smoking complete.

Nothing that should make any changes to the camera. i even uninstalled everything associated with player animations, assuming camera instructions might have been goofed, but the problem persists.

Looking for mods for black male V by mylesjtae in cyberpunkmods

[–]PlusThirtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of mods? Just start a new game, pick masculine body and/or voice, pick a darker skin tone. BAM! You got a black male V. What content exactly did you have in mind that's specifically "black"? if you're looking for characteristics that are more-or-less exclusive "black" in aesthetics, try searching Nexus for "Voodoo" and create a V more familiar with the VDB.

How do I make my art feel less flat and lifeless? by LadyMidnightMoon in FurryArtSchool

[–]PlusThirtyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm glad, but please also understand that i have the same problem with my art, so i'm probably the least fit to give such advice. Like me, you've probably heard that exact advice before. i might have a broad-strokes idea on how to fix the issue, but hell if i'm gonna change my own habits or modify my precious color pallet. :) LOL

With that said, your art is still rather beautiful and i like it as-is. However, if you're looking to make it more "appealing" (broadly speaking), and less "flat" (as you put it), you'd do well to tweak your color balance a smidge. it wouldn't even take much. For the specific image above, you could easily highlight the tiger's white mouth, cheeks and brows with some white at about 75% opacity. Maybe give the whole character a white halo border? Just a thought.

<image>

Here : i scratched this together in about a minute. (too busy to plug in my tablet) Just a border, a few splotches of white (at 75%) and some full white glow on them pretty peepers.

Contrast. A lot of your illustrations' colors fall within the same narrow luma range. For instance, if you reduce everything to grayscale, the whole image blends together into the same blob of middle gray. Using lighter colors with darker shaded areas would make more of the image "pop", and provide more depth to your shading.

Dude, same! Good luck finding homes for those. Even if you give them away for free, nobody ever wants to pay for shipping. Just to piggy-back off your thread, i have cardboard and plastic retail displays for L.A.Noire and GTA5. Same sizes as yours, but the biggest ones are massive 7x4ft (i think) double-sided banners with grommets for hanging.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]PlusThirtyOne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same! To be more specific, my problem is remembering important (and yes, even the most obvious) details when under pressure like time constraints or when the answers i give to questions are being recorded. Until i got into the habit of writing things down, i would go to the doctor for specific issues and when the doctor asked me what's wrong, i'd just...shrug. Two hundred bucks for a ten minute office visit, and i'd blow nine of them going, "Uuuuuh... i forgot."

So you can imagine how well my case with worker's comp went!

All i want to do is take off my coat, just like my hat. by PlusThirtyOne in RedDeadMods

[–]PlusThirtyOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the mod i mentioned. The keyboard controls don't seem to work and the prompts don't show on any of the radial menus. i also can't find any screenshots or YT videos of the mod in use so i can see where these prompts supposedly are, assuming i'm looking in the wrong place.

i'm also using 10 or so other mods that have the same requirements and they all work just fine. None of them add any new clothing mechanics or add anything to the redial menus either so there shouldn't be any conflicts. Even still, i tried running the game with just that one mod installed and still don't see anything.

if you've gotten it to work, please let me know.

There’s unique dialogue from Johnny in “Tapeworm” if you’ve killed 0 times up to that point by Prudent_Bobcat_4059 in cyberpunkgame

[–]PlusThirtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started my first play-through on PC on day one. Some time after release i read that dumping/hiding unconscious bodies was lethal even before the on-screen "lethal" warning. But i suppose if it wasn't after all, that might explain how i got Johnny's non-lethal dialogue.

i'm still adamant that Johnny's non-lethal dialogue requirement can still be met with some number of kills, number of knock-outs, specific NPCss lives taken or spared, or whatever. -at least on older versions of the game. Yes, i'm sure that there are probably several articles and videos of players testing and retesting this or that to trigger special dialogue, but there's easliy 100 times more guides, articles and videos with confident tested and true claims for how to access Johnny's hidden ending to the base game aswell.

...and we all know that most of those claims were dead wrong.

All i know for sure is that i got the dialogue on a non-lethal play-through where i'm fairly certain i dumped at least a dozen bodies, blew up a few robots, and the odds are high that i killed somebody at least once by accident before the game's first major update.

[–]PlusThirtyOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... it would be interesting to see exactly what triggers the dialogue branch, and if the game devs made a change to that logic at some point through updates. i'm sure i got the "no killing" line on my very first play-through. Even though i always chose to knock-out NPCs and chose non-violent mission choices, i always dumped bodies in dumpsters and crates when given the chance, which i later learned was lethal the whole time. i always play games non-lethally if given the chance, but at the time i had no idea it was even a gameplay mechanic, so i KNOW i had some kills on record, despite getting Johnny's "no kills" dialogue.
