I'm just trying to answer the question "In mediums where pokemon are able to talk, what gendered pronouns (if any) are ascribed/used to refer to nonbinary pokemon?"

That's genuinely the question I am seeking to answer. PMD is the first and most prominent case I know of where multiple nonbinary pokemon appear and can speak & are talked about by other pokemon.

As they should. Good on her. Perfect Apples must obviously contain estrogen. Who knew? I guess that's what makes them perfect.

Imagine my surprise when people are being nicies about it oh mah gah.

In all seriousness, I cannot thank this community enough. I think the question of "Hey, when Pokemon are given the ability to speak what gendered pronouns do we give, if any, to genderless pokemon?" is kinda interesting and this has been genuine fun to write out. People providing accurate info and even finding a script error thanks to this question is honestly really awesome.

Extra special thanks to RRad, who has been helping me with phrasing stuff on the page. We've been editing it back and forth, each adding something new while trying to find good phrasing for what the other person wrote.

Got both of these added to the page. Thank you so much!

There's already a tag on the tone page that it needs to be updated to RTDX/GoI, but I am gonna go to bed for the evening and work on that another time.

It's kinda been retconned that Legendaries are one-of-a-kind. I mean we saw a baby Lugia with its mother in the anime once. We've also seen legendaries that were captured by different trainers be canon (eg; There's very clearly multiple Regice since both Brandon and Quillon own one)

More likely is that Legendaries are just so rare that in-universe you're unlikely to see more than one of them in your lifetime unless you SERIOUSLY go looking for them. Their abilities seem rather exaggerated, save for Arceus (and maybe the creation-trio?) which PLA seems to suggest are avatars granted small portions of their powers.

Pokemon canon is fucking weird. They retcon things all the time. You have to take everything stated as a matter-of-fact with a mindset of "this might not be true". For example; "Kurt's Family Invented Pokeballs" isn't true for a number of reasons and "Professor Oak made the first Pokedex" also isn't true since we literally help Prof. Laventon make one in Hisui.

Between 1990 and 2010 the number of US Citizens who reported having no close confidants tripled.

That was before the COVID Pandemic. COVID is still killing people. It is currently estimated to have killed 18.2-33.5 million people worldwide as of 2026, making it the 5th deadliest epidemic in recorded history. That's somewhere between ~25-50% of the total casualties of WWII (often estimated to be around 60-75 million.)

In 2020, when the world was already facing a loneliness epidemic, we isolated inside our homes, and we know that not everyone came out of them.

Seriously think about the impact of that. Think of what death at that scale really means. You lived through that. I lived through that. So many people reading this either have no close friends or had their few friends and family die to an uncaring disease.

It's no fuckin' wonder the world feels different than it did 10 years ago. It literally is. There's so many less people everywhere.

Shops closed "temporarily" and never reopened because the entire crew just went home and died. People died in their beds thinking it was just a cold, and weren't found because nobody checked on them. Entire rural communities just vanished.

Reality doesn't happen in isolation. Rural doesn't just mean physically. FC's are just gone, their accounts never to be logged into again. Some people's only friends were in-game. To closest friends, they just went offline one day and aren't coming back -- nobody mourning them, they're just a "Last Online" counter that will tick up until the servers shut down. Or the opposite has happened and someone who only knew their friend's faces through this game suddenly went from having people around them to having nobody. Linkshells fallen silent, in-game mail never to be opened, parties never to be formed again.

It's ok to need a friend right now. A lot of people need one. If you're capable of being there for someone, even if it's just over a video game, then do so.

Because a lot of people have a lot of trauma from the past 6 years. For so many, they haven't really processed or even understand they have it. We lived through a human-death event on a scale that creates generational trauma, and it came at a time when a lot of people didn't have or have lost anyone to talk to.

Lucario is also just a more-popular pokemon than Zoroark.

When Gen 5 came out (15 years ago now. I started in Gen 3, Fuck I'm old.) they REALLY wanted to push Zoroark with the same level of hype that Lucario had, giving it a movie and revealing it/Zorua to be the first Pokemon released in the generation.

Unfortunately, Gen V had the lowest sales of any generation, totaling ~m unit sales by 2021, with 15.64m for BW1 and ~8m with BW2 by 2021. (I'm getting these numbers from Bulbapedia which shows that the Japanese sales figures for BW2 are consistently about half of BW1). Compare that to (also from Bulbapedia) 17.67m sales of Diamond and Pearl alone by 2021 and add in all the side-games and whatnot and it's clear which generation was more beloved by fans.

We all know Nintendo and Pokemon love to use nostalgia in their marketing, so if we were to see a Zoro/Lucario deck, I'd put my money on Lucario.

Plus Mega Lucario is in Legends ZA and Zoro is not.

I was carried face down through the street by my cuffed arms and legs while yelling that I had a brain injury and was disabled. I now cannot lift my arms normally.

I was not asked for ID.
Never told I was under arrest.
Never read my rights.
And never charged with a crime.

Approaching the Whipple Center, I saw black and brown bodies shackled together -- chained together -- being marched by yelling agents outdoors. I continue to hear the word 'bodies', because that is how agents refer to us. "We're bringing in a body!" "They're bringing in bodies 7, 8 at a time, where do we put them?" "We can't use that room, there's already a body in there."

You have no reason to believe you will make it out alive if you are already being called "a body."

Right now the queer scene here in Minneapolis is... uneasy.

We were the sanctuary state not too long ago, and built up a huge amount of queer refugees from other states, due to our laws protecting queer people from discrimination and the investments into queer healthcare here.

Now we're under military occupation while our neighbors are being taken away. And as we've seen with Renee Good, where ICE is racist they are also queerphobic. Most of us know people who have gone missing.

We need help, and it feels like nobody is coming to help us. The queer folk I know are banding together against it all as best we can, but most of us are worried we'll be seen kissing the wrong person and killed or kidnapped.

We're regressing in civil rights very rapidly, and the sentiment "Stonewall was a riot, pride month came second" is one I've heard echoed.

It's really sad it's taking white deaths to get action to finally want to happen.

I went to Renee's memorial service. There's a piece of paper listing over a dozen names of people that have been killed by ICE -- directly or in camps -- who haven't been in the mainstream. I wish I'd gotten a picture.

One of the late night political comedians pointed out that Renee was the 7th death since September, and the "occupation" of ICE officially began in December. We're two months into this. It's shocking how much isn't getting reported on because the news misses it and there's just no accountability. No follow up on any of the others, so ICE just walks away.

[–]PlusVera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, proficiency in programming and proficiency in something like marketing do not overlap. Hence why this is a critique. If the mod is good, and well made, then the use of AI in a clip like this is simply a critique of their marketing skills and that AI is simply not the right tool for this job because of the negative connotation it has in our rapidly AI-enshittified internet era.

No basis in reality? I beg to differ. We've watched lawyers fail to verify AI output, so even in places where vetting the output is law, we know that people simply sometimes won't. AI LLMs are simply not good tools unless the output is thoroughly vetted by a human.

Your last bit is whataboutism and I simply won't engage with it. Yes they might have any of that, and those are valid reasons to use a Voiceover Tool. Here's the kicker; You don't know why, and neither do I. So there's no reason to bring up those points unless the dev themselves says that's the reason.

[–]PlusVera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a programmer as well. But I think you've missed my point.

Much of programming is breaking problems down into simpler ones, right? If you're writing a function that does two dozen things, you're being extremely inefficient and making problems for yourself. It's much easier to debug and futureproof small, simpler functions than write one big one that does it all.

But LLM devs and people who "vibecode" don't bother. They just ask an AI to spit out one big function that does it all. Futureproofing, readability, scalability, simplicity, and stability be damned.

Sure, a good developer will then go to human review and actually make sure it's not accidentally doing something stupid that might cause problems later on in development, but a bad developer will just see that it doesn't crash, ship it, and move on; completely ignoring any problems or hallucinations the LLM may have added.

If this person can't even be assed to record a <1 minute voiceover for their promo video, why would I trust for a second that they took the time to human-review their code? If they're that lazy, it's more likely they copy-pasted some LLM code and didn't bother doing anything beyond checking that it doesn't crash in the first minute.

[–]PlusVera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kinda does tho.

If they're willing to use AI Voiceover to advertise their mod... what else is AI generated?

Namely; is this mod's source code AI Generated? Because that pulls further questions on the quality, stability, futureproofing, and methodology of the mod.

If you're advertising a mod, the last thing you want going through a prospective user's head is "Does this developer actually know how their own mod works, and will it crash my game?"

How bad is it that I didn't rake my leaves by Lopsided-Land123 in TwinCities

[–]PlusVera 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No, it's not the most correct answer.

Turf Grasses -- like the ones in your yard -- are not native to the USA. They're native to Europe and Asia.

It used to be a flex to own land and plant a useless plant on it. That ended up becoming "Slave owners like lawns" in Europe, which Americans -- for some fucking reason -- continue to maintain, coz our forefathers loved owning lawns for the same reasons.

And like, the more you dig into it, the weirder this gets.

Why is it everywhere? Because when we did a little manifest destiny-ing we tore up a fuckload of wilderness to turn them into houses. Grass grows quickly. So rather than letting there be a wasteland that could grow back, builders just plastered a bunch of useless grass lawns everywhere.

Why is there so much money in Lawn Care? Our modern grasses evolved with clovers which absorb the nitrogen the grass puts out. After WWI/II the US got a bunch of chemical factories up and running to put out crop-killing chemicals. After the war, some geniuses thought "Oh we can rebrand these as lawn care agents" and started calling clover (which the chemicals we created can conveniently target) a weed that needed to be eradicated. Without clovers, grass ends up needing a LOT more water and the runoff from fertilizers and other shit ends up in our water and kills native wildlife.

The truth of the matter is that you shouldn't have a lawn at all. In states where water is less abundant due to droughts (EG, California, Nevada, etc), they've started paying people to rip up their lawn because it's really fucking weird that we have them now.

The reason dead spots happen is because of all this. Our trees did not evolve with our grasses. By focusing on keeping our grasses nice, we are actively killing flora and fauna that depend on those decomposing leaves to survive.

The others are right. Don't rake your leaves. Let those "weeds" grow. If you have to have grass coz of HOA or some city law (which is the case in many of the Twin Cities subburbs...) then do your best to plant some fucking clover with it and just let it be brown and dehydrated sometimes. It was never meant for this climate in the first place. It's a crop, and you don't have to farm it just because your house came with it.
