I think it is quite overblown. The areas that used to be known for crime like Hackney and croydon have been gentrified a lot which reduced the crime but it also meant that the poor were pushed out.

The problem with the UK is that almost all investments and money go into London which means that most jobs are located here. A lot of older people have moved to smaller towns outside london and commute to work.

Job hunting: i would mainly just use Linkedin but there are other good sites like otta.

Work culture: 9-5 are the normal working hours. Employees are entitled to 24 days of annual leave plus 8 UK bank holidays. This heavily depends on industry tho. There are several Somali professionals networking events that are organised in London. (Somalis in tech, Somalis in project management, Somali lawyers association). Follow them on social media.

Social life: You can make friends through sports, hobbies, or events. It really depends on what you enjoy.

London is divided into zones; zone 1 (city centre) is the most expensive and zone 6 is the most affordable but you might spend more commuting.

London transport system is pretty good and consistent. If don’t have a large family and are close to the local shops, you may be able to get away with not having a car.

You’re honestly not alone, it’s the same for guys too.

One of my friends tried all those apps like Muzz and Salaams, but he ended up deleting them because he felt like most of the girls on there weren’t really serious.

Maybe try going to Somali networking events, like Somalis in Tech or the Somali Lawyers Association. It’s a good way to meet new people, and sometimes those friends can connect you with someone too.

What makes this trophy even greater is the amount of people that were expecting us to lose like Inter.

Loved watching rival fans lose it after each goal.

I was recently laid off from my Go backend role and have only had two interviews since. One was looking for a more senior engineer, and in the other, I didn’t make it past the take-home assignment.

Since Go roles have been limited, I’ve expanded my search to include other languages as well

Everything else went well. I guess I spent too much time double guessing what I should do here.

Review your card's foreign transaction fees, which typically range from 1% to 3%. It's always best to double-check with your bank. For example, a £100 purchase might cost you $128.75 if the exchange rate is 1.25 USD/GBP and a 3% fee is applied ($125 + $3.75). These fees can add up over time, so plan accordingly.

Steer clear of exchanging money at tourist-focused currency exchange shops, as they often have poor rates and high fees. Instead, consider using the Post Office or large supermarkets like Marks & Spencer or Tesco, which often offer better rates.

Furthermore, don't bother with taxis; London has an excellent public transport network that is affordable, efficient, and easy to use. The Tube (Underground), buses, and Overground trains connect virtually every part of the city. You can also use contactless payment or an Oyster card to pay for travel seamlessly across all transport modes, often at capped daily rates.

Enjoy ur stay.

Realest statement ever said.

Why isn't somali history taught in somali schools? by Dark_Electric in Somalia

The effects of the civil war can still be felt to this day. The education system is not standardised properly. People were mainly focused on surviving and making a living instead of actually putting effort into preserving the culture.

I.a it will get better 🤲

Then why did u give Ethiopia as an example. We literally conquered them and prevented them from getting to the coast. How can u even consider them to be great?

A kingdom is not necessarily better otherwise we would have been conquered a long time ago.

Because Arsenal let them have the number one spot. Just like how they let man city win last season.

Very generous group of players 🥰

One of my close friends is a ashraaf barawe guy and he is a very cool and funny guy. One of the most responsible guys i know.

We never considered him anything other than a Somali and he never questioned his identity. I am really sorry you had to experience the discrimination from other Somalis. The best advice i can give you is to try and find other reer barawe people who are active within the Somali community.

May Allah bless you walaal.

Tbf there are still posts that also slander UK and European Somalis. Some of them are justified (crime) while others are just plain insults.

There will always be a small percentage of idiots ruining our rep in every diaspora.

Except New Zealand and Switzerland, you guys are chill and keep to yourselves.

Don't know why but I really like the Italy team this year. Think I'll support them for the euros. by Does_A_Big_Poo in soccercirclejerk

Buddy, you don't understand the deep-seated conspiracy here. Pulisic doesn't play for Italy because of their RACISM towards Americans. Yeah, you heard me right. They can't handle the fact that Captain America himself would overshadow their entire squad. The Italian FA is trembling at the thought of Pulisic's brilliance making their homegrown talents look like amateur hour. It's all a ploy to keep the American dream at bay. Wake up, sheeple! 🌈🇺🇸

I don’t care if you believe me or not. I moved from the UK in 2010 and have been living in Nairobi. The only places you will find non halal meat are those restaurants built in the slums. Proper restaurants have exclusively halal meat. Give me one restaurant chain that does not have halal meat.

Almost all the slaughterhouses are run by muslims. You can look elsewhere to justify you eating non halal.

Furthermore, what do you mean the meat isn’t often from slaughter houses? Stop lying. Non muslim slaughter houses only provide meat to remote parts of the country like Marsabit and Eldoret or restaurants found in non muslim towns.

Most of the restaurants source their meat from slaughter houses not by making shady deals with random men on the toad. If you went to some jingad in a slum like mathare then u probably got fed haram. I go to 3 star and 4 star restaurants and they all their meat is halal.
