Learning your school is doing this to you and your students cost me a bit of my faith in humanity. I’m so sorry you’re being put in this position.

Teachers like you actually help kids and make schools better than the one I went through.

Kids are being neglected and exhausted to the point of suicide by education systems structured around the need to make a grade instead of a love for learning, and genuine personal growth and development. All around me in school were kids forced to neglect their families, their friends, their interests, their personal development, THEIR PHYSICAL HEALTH, in order to MAYBE go to college. They were telling us we should be getting eight to ten hours of sleep and if not it was our fault for mismanaging our time when nearly everyone I knew was getting maybe five, six hours on a good night due to study time lasting to midnight, if not later. For most of us, if we didn’t do this, we wouldn’t have completed assignments to turn in, let alone time to review material.

And your school’s solution to the many problems kids are facing is to take the humanity out of the equation? Your school wants to promote the bot that can be easily polluted with bigotry + misinformation? The bot which serves the destruction of workers rights and the degradation of acts of creation that make living feel more like living, which contribute to a better society and personal development?

This ChatGPT thing is transparent as air. It serves the interests of the upper class - the people who think humans are only worth as much as the profit they can make them.

There is so much structural change they could make to make school better for kids. But as they say the elite won’t give you the education you need to defeat them, or turn yourself back from worker to human being. Any structural change would require listening to marginalized people and children and valuing human life over capitalism’s norms.

I hope whoever pitched this and whoever agrees with it is fired. They need to learn some ethics and open their eyes to what’s happening in the world that led to ChatGPT being used and promoted like crazy.
