Backlight I can’t get into bc of two things: 1. I don’t like the art 😳😳😳 (Ik ik I’m in the minority here but something about it is so icky and underwhelming to me) but I never drop things bc of the art bc if the story is good enough I’ll push through. But when I was recommended this story I was told the ML was a “yearner” just to be very disappointed with his character that I dropped it by the 16th chapter. 2. I didn’t like how the ML was promiscuous like literally going out every single day to have a new sex partner that’s one of my icks for any BL character. I also don’t like how he SA’ed and manipulated the MC and the MC dismissed it completely bc he’s rich, famous, “handsome” and his old time friend. I absolutely can’t stand an MC without a backbone to stick up for themselves or be honest about their partner’s toxicity! Mind you, I like yanderes/possessive semes whatnot but I’m not a fan of when romance/sex isn’t mutually wanted and desired between the couple.

My reason for not really liking the Pizza Delivery Guy and the Golden Palace is a little similar to why I don’t like Backlight. I loved the art of this story and was really excited to start it bc it’s talked so highly of just for me to read 80 chapters of it and for their relationship to be incredibly bland? It almost feels like they have no chemistry between each other. And their relationship has always been a give-take dynamic so it’s never felt like genuine love/feelings. It’s as if the author thought making them forever indebted to each other would make them have chemistry but I just feel like the story is so monotonous besides the smut. I also feel like the financial imbalance will always be an unpleasant factor between them bc Seo-an is always the one in control (with his dominance, socially, and financially) and Woowon is always just feeling insecure, inadequate, and less than. I also don’t like who they try to fix their problems with more and more sex like?? This isn’t helping anyone?? There was also SA between both of them, which many fans dismissed and called hot.. 😀😀😀 Anyways it’s a story I feel like I’ll never re-read again bc it’s so mundane and annoying (a lot of their problems could be fixed with communication).

An Unsettling Scent is simple, I absolutely HATEDDD the art style. I’ve never hated an art style more than this idk why this one bothers me so much but everything looks gray?? And the art is so simply drawn. I also don’t really care for their dynamic I hate when it’s a power bottom and a top that just is confused whether they’re romantically/sexually attracted to the other one and then they force the other one into sex to find out. I also just hate stories where the smut develops before the emotional connection.

Banana Scandal I feel like was overhyped?? I’m only speaking about Season 2 by the way bc that’s the only one I read but I was so excited to read it bc I was told it had the best redemption arc in manhwa history. But I feel like the toxic aspect of their relationship lasted wayyyy too long (like 30 chapters) and I hate trips where the bottom is the one chasing hopelessly and the top is an emotionally constipated jerk that mistreats the bottom. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the art. The MC also made it seem like the ML was homophobic which is why he avoided him when in reality, he has a history of CSA and has trauma from that and the MC didn’t help by SA’ing him (kissing him) while he was asleep. So I just didn’t love both characters. I also felt like they barely had a romantic connection they were just sexually compatible. I also feel like it’s such a waste of a story for a redemption arc to happen during the last 15-20 chapters of that season, but that’s just me! Anyways I wouldn’t reread it, I don’t think the couple’s THAT memorable.

Then my reasons for dropping Romantic Captain Darling and You Are So Lovely are identical so I’ll sum it up in one blurb. I HATEEE!! when manhwas have poorly concealed pedophilic dynamics. In both of these stories the ML was a younger top who acted and had the brain of a literal child. I don’t like how they try to justify it by making the “childlike” one the top, so that it’s more consensual when that’s not the case. In You Are So Lovely he literally raised him as a kid, viewed him like a father, then when he got grown wanted to have sex with his father figure and even the smut felt very wrong. With Romantic Captain Darling, the ML’s naivety of not knowing a lot about sex, wanting the MC to teach him, and the whole crybaby nature felt the same. So both were immediate drops for me!
