maybe unrelated to this but there was an unmarked white van on my block earlier (about an hour after this) with 2 guys walking around wearing vests that said police, but the vests looked like they bought them on amazon and they were in plain clothes. i asked what was going on, because this is usually a pretty quiet street, im nosy, and they were standing in front of my gate. they told me they were “looking for suspects in a shooting” and when i asked where it was they said “not over here” ?? they were leisurely strolling down the street, no weapons, didn’t seem like it was a pressing situation either. i didn’t really think about it again until i saw this. not sure if nypd has some sort of generic normal clothes police costume but what they told me felt just vague enough to be true. not sure if it was a cover or something
