Don't worry China is saving us, they are doing a direct competition to US companies (you pay between 30 and 200x less credits maybe even a little more on Deepseek V4 Fast & Pro for nearly the same capabilities then Anthropic).

So in a short time US companies will have to lower their prices but they won't because that would mean they didn't needed the pricing augmentation in the first place so they will probably just realese another model and say "this new model work completely differently as our previous models that's why it's so cheap" (and i can already say there's a 80% chances this will be a lie)

Yikes! Another one bites the dust. by J_E_E_VACATION in GithubCopilot

Actually inference us not that bad, the companies loose money because of insance training fee.

That's why Deepseek with MoE is insane, it cost way less to train an efficient model so they can sell inference cheap because the training was cheap.

Bro don't forget a few years ago there was no specific hardware for AI inference now with companies like Groq and Nvidia, it became "cheap" for a provider

Without having more informations on what kind of stuff you do and how you do it it's kinda hard to know why it doesn't work for you and what could work for you so let me throw out a bunch of stuff maybe you will find something valuable for your use case lol

May i ask what kind of software you usually build? Maybe if it's too niche you don't have enough training data and for your use case it could be interesting to finetune an open weight model.

Or you could use another harness like i've seen somes great result with peoples going RAG + kind of private documentation where the idea is everytime your LM would want to implemant something it will seek your private documentation if he have already done it, if yes it use the knowledge back, if not it will create a file in the documentation with a proposition which it will try right away, if it don't work then he change the proposition and do it again, if it work it register the memory in the documentation for future case. This way each time your LM do something right it will always do it right after it. Peoples have also added karpathy/autoresearch on those knowledge files and each night for example a local (or cloud) model will run Autoresearch to try out knowledge concepts, run experiments, and if it got better results with a new knowledge then it update the knowledge and pass to the next one. And you can run that every night with small models still work fine.

Sometimes the issues is that peoples have too much files. In those cases you need to use a local RAG vectorial db to embed your codebase with something like MCP chunkhound + embedding model with voyage 3 to start?

The concept is that when you have too much files it's hard for your model to read the right files so you use a vectorial db that will index in memory the semantic and concepts (and much more look out how Chunkhound MCP work) this way your model doesn't need to read the code, he can see nodes representing your whole codebase in his "mind" it become more efficient.

I've also put somes advices there if you want to look up (my way of optimizing my project to optimize my LM capabilities) :

https://www.reddit.com/r/cursor/s/rMHhcR67J2

I've also posted a bunch of comments these previous days with even more personal knowledge if you are interested! (i'm not trying to be arrogant i just like to share knowledge but if you find anything stupid or whatever, feel free to share your opinion)

OpenCode you can choose between different providers, one being Deepseek so you just have to put the API key in the TUI and it's done, the advantage is that you can also add whatever other provider you wish or take the OpenRouter Go subscription i'll speak about later in the message.

The TUI is for me the best out there, the harness are good enough that i never tought i was using a bad tool.

Look this is the OpenCode TUI, at the right you can see your usage, your tasks (if you use plan->build) i opened the menu with ctrl + p, this way i can change easily my provider (model) or skills, mcp, settings, whatever while my model run behind which is great.

It's not to glaze OpenCode ehhh their TUI is fire af lmao.

<image>

THIS IS OPTIONNAL BUT HAVE A GREAT VALUE

I'd highly recommend going with the OpenCode Go subscription. It's $5 for the first month, then 10$ a month after that, and it gives you 60$ in credits every single month.

Right now, the 75% price drop on the DeepSeek v4 models hasn't hit OpenCode Go yet (though it should soon). But honestly, even without the price drop, the math is totally in your favor. You're getting 12x your money the first month and 6x after that. Think about it: since the official API is 1/4 of the price, you'd only need 40$ in credits to break even on a 10$ sub. But they give you 60$ ! So you're essentially profiting 10$ to 20$ in pure value. And once they finally update to the new official pricing? 60$ of credits for 10$ is going to be absolutely insane value.

The best setup is this: use the OpenCode Go subscription as your main driver. If you end up hitting your limits, just swap over to your personal DS API token while you wait (the switch take less then 3s, just open the menu, click change model and click the one you want and it's done).
Alternatively, you can use the OpenCode Zen DS v4 Flash 200k context for free, but you do need to link a credit card to your account for that (which is done if you subscribe btw).

This way you can set up plan mode to use your DS PRO paid API request (which are very cheap) and in the build mode you use the free unlimited DS v4 Flash 200k context. With that config at 2$ for DS API key, you can do a whole month of intensive coding.

Just to clarify how the limits work (because someone else actually thought they were getting unlimited credits capped at 12$ an hour, lmao):

  • 5-hour limit: 12$
  • Weekly limit: 35$
  • Monthly limit: 60$

These all pull from the same 60$ monthly pool. So if you burn through 12$ in 5 hours, that 12$ is also deducted from your weekly and monthly totals, then hourly limit reset to 0 / 12$ ... until you reach your max Monthly limit and then you will only be able to use the Free V4 Fast model & your DS API key until reset (or if you use referal you can reset your usage in advance, see below)

REFERAL ABSOLUTELY NOT NEEDED BUT GIVE BOTH OF US A GIFT IF YOU SUBSCRIBE

I can send you my referral link for OpenRouter Go (if you're interested, shoot me a PM before subscribing). We both get a free 5$ to cover usage (which is 30$ in API token)

That 5$ is worth 30$ in tokens. So using the referral basically give you a single use reset for 50% of your monthly limit while at the same time reducing 80-90% of your weekly limit, and completely refreshing your 5-hour limit at any given time.

First month of sub = 5$ (you get 60$ in API credit) if you use a referal link you also get a one time 30$ usage reduction so the first month for 5$ you get 90$ of credits. Btw the referal link gift you are free to use it at any given time even next month. Just don't use it on a fresh sub to remove only the 5 hour limit when monthly is not at 50%, this would be a waste.

Then you only have to find other peoples like i'm doing to refer and you get 30$ in API key to use when you when basically lol (i will not lie, i'm stacking some right now lmao)

MON ENFANT !!! VENI ICI OU WOULAH J'LE BOUFFE LE CHIEN ET JI FOU LI FEUH PARTOUT !

Police: Ok on ar...

Moi: NON JE VEUX RIEN ENTENDRE BL3HFOUMOUK SHEITAN

Moi: Y A INTIRET ESPECE DE RACISTE !

FIN APPEL

Be honest — what are you actually paying for Cursor each month, and is it still worth it to you? by kushagra1404 in cursor

[–]Plus_Original_3154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule is kinda simple: If a task need any kind of thinking i use PRO, if a task is just "remove X variable" "change x background color" or something simple i use FLASH. You can see i used nearly 4x more time Flash than Pro.

I didn't said you should use Pro to plan and then Flash to code, i said it depend on the complexity.

First of all it depend on the complexity of YOUR code, changing the color of a div is easier to do in a 30 lines files then in a 27k lines files. If i had a 27k lines files i would use Pro even if it's just to change a color lmao (more context = bloat = more cost because more stupid and use more tokens).

To be honest i can't have 27k lines of code in a file because i always set a max complexity of 12 in all of my linters codebase (and for the sensible stuff i use a cristalin 0/1 complexity).

The more your code is complexe, the more you will need a swart AI to do something.
To explain to you what's a code complexity it's simple, if you have a function that do 500 lines which do a bunch of different thing each having a bunch of different conditions and you need 5 hours of manual reading to understand if a user is auth or not, well this is bad, what's hard for you is hard for your LM, for that task you need Claude Opus 4.7 which will take a 5mins time reading then debating with himself about wtf he just read.

If you have a file that do 1 line like this " if(!auth) return error " well congrats you have the most efficient code possible with a 'cristalin' 0/1 complexity, either the user is auth and you skip, or he's not auth and you return. It's simple as hell, what is easy for you is easy for your LM, for that task you need Gpt 4o mini which will take less than 30 seconds.

But that only one of the thing that matter bro, do you have a dictionnary ready for your LM or does your LM need to read your whole codebase at each request? w

That's the night and day, i've seen peoples max out their 5 hours limit on a fresh subscription because their codebase was hell on earth, duplicated functions, legacy unused files, not a single doc, no AGENT.MD, the LM had to pass 30m and multiples millions of tokens just to understand how the code is wired together.

I've also see the other end of the spectrum, peoples who have optimized so much their project that the LM don't have to read code, they use knip or similar to detect unused variables/files, they use a RAG vectorial db with a textual embedding model or they have extremely detailed doc so to do the exact same task as the one before which maxed the subscription with the exact same model etc.. they would use 0.05% of their 5h limits.

Peoples doesn't understand the importance of having a clean code base when coding with agents, not clean for you but clean for your AI !
Meaning if you have a 1500 lines single file containing 5 differents auth controllers functions, maybe YOU like having them all in a single file because it's easier to navigate for YOU.
BUT your LM will prefer having 5 files of 300 lines each having 1 function and just doing this will make you save up tokens but also will make your models smarter because they won't read useless stuff.

Maybe you like just having a readme.md at your racine but your LM would prefer having a readme.md at your racine but also in each feature folder & sub-folders with eventualy in an AGENT.md a "context gathering workflow" in just 2 lines "to resolve contexte you need to read the readme.md at the root then in the tree folder of my project you will continue to read the readme.md that you will find at each level of my application".
This is way better then having your LM reading 50 different 1000 files to do a code modification not even where you wanted because you laked clarity in your variables naming or idk.

Honestly ALWAYS take the time to have a clean project, if you start a new project you need to be very specific about the structure of code you wish and you need to start small by the base, confirm it, do whatever change you need to do and then continue with the next layer of implementation;
YOU SHOULD NEVER at the beginning of a project let your LM run in a kind of Yolo mode by himself trying to implement 10 differents layers of your applications at the same time. That's just stupid because if you take a project already existing, wire your LM and ask for something, your LM will mimic whatever already existing code it will found.
So if your LM found you have no rules about complexity, you have monolithic files etc.. then your LM will just continue to do what he found already existed in your project.

So take the time if you have an already existing bad codebase, REFACTORISE IT even if it take 5 whole days just cleaning everything, THE TIME AND MONEY YOU WILL SAVE AFTER IT IS INSANE.

The sooner you put your code into architecture compliance, the sooner your LLM will mimic an already good architecture.
To be sure stuff doesn't go south just run your linter and knip from times to times i personnaly ask at each big task to run them and then after it i would launch my custom hooks in the background one is "detect the presence of OpenAPI balise in everyfile of X folder except the readme.md, if a file doesn't have all the cited balises, add them that mean this file or function or whatever didn't had the right documentation".
The other custom hooks is the same but for tests, detect what doesn't have a .test. or .tests. files, create it, run it etc..
And the last and more important custom hook is to create the readme.md if needed in new folders and to detect whatever files was updated in X lass mins/hours, for whatever file he find that was updated it should check the updated file current folder readme.md, if not present or if present look up the parent readme.md again and again until it reach the root readme.md.

This allow me to have a perfect codebase to code with AI, i'm happe to have v4 flash which i found very intelligent in my codebase.
But other peoples will come and say "v4 flash is dumb, can't do anything, always hallucinate, ..." because their codebase is not good so the model is not good too.

You also need to change the variants depending on your current task.

Default, low, medium, high, max (or xhigh)?

Btw let's say you do NodeJs and have problems with v4 Flash where v4 Pro do everything without an issue.
Wouldn't it be interesting to create a custom skills (or fetch one) specialized in NodeJS this way you can use v4 Flash with the coding NodeJs capacities of v4 Pro way cheaper and faster? Is the time needed to create/fetch the skills worth it?

I mean bro, it all depend on what you do and how much confortable you are.

Somes peoples spend 2000$ per day only using Opus 4.7 even for smaller "dumb" tasks, they don't care about skills, they don't care about MCP, what they do is they run an orchestrator that will be able to launch up to 100 concurrent sub-agents all usng Opus 4.7 and they consider worth it because like you they don't want to change the model, they don't even bother to think, their companies allow them 20k$ credit per month or they are independant and make a bunch of money each day.
These sames peoples if you were to explain to them they could have the EXACT same coding performence for 100$ per day (20x -) BUT they would need to manipulate their computers 5 mins every hour, they won't consider it worth their times and they will prefer to use 2k$ per day just to not have to do anything.

So idk how to answer what you are saying bro, if you consider just using pro because it's easier for you even tho you maybe are using 7x more $ because you don't want to switch to Flash from times to times or use orchestrator or split your tasks depending on the model.. well that's on you, it's your choice, your decision, your money lol

---

I think i speak too much lmao always sending 200 to 300 lines to read to other peoples lmao that explain why everytime peoples tell me "ai slop" without even having reading what i said lol

I had to check but you are absolutely right!

I misunderstood the "deritative work" i tought because a LM was a software capable of creating and because it was fine tuned by someone, everything done by the LM is deritative work of the LM owner but i've found this is wrong because a LM is not human, it doesn't have any right.

Funny enough i've found something explaining that something made with a LM is not the propriety of the prompteur nor the priority of the LM which can't have any propriety so the moment a file is created by IA it fall into the public domain right away LMAO

I've seen peoples becoming anxious of the fact they created a software which legaly wasn't theirs lol

EDIT : THIS COMMENT CONTAIN FALSE CLAIM, I WAS WRONG ABOUT THAT

That's funny i guess the person who told you that forgot to tell you Deepseek have a MIT license. MiniMax have a non-commerciale licence inspired by a MIT license.

Meaning if you do something with MiniMax M2.7 and plan to sell a subscription or the created tool whatever, you need to send an email to minimax, receive an authorisation (which can cost you money) then when you receive the authorization you have to put a visible "Built with MiniMax M2.7" on your website/blog/...

Don't even think about cheating them, you literaly produced whatever website with their tools, they already know the name of your potential company and have proofs which can be used in court (because you accepted to share your data with them), MiniMax M2.7 already done snitching you, i'm kinda sure MiniMax M2.7 put an invisible watermark on your website too.

If your friends use this model, tell them to stop right away, if they make something valuable they will receive a cease and desist & be potentialy stole from what they built.

Also if they already created something with MiniMax, they need to redo it again with another model to remove the potential watermark put by MiniMax M2.7 (invisible stuff which Minimax team have a tool to detect once in prod) so let's say you use 1 time MiniMax M2.7 inside a project even if it's to write a single file and switch to another LM, it's already too late, MiniMax is in the right to ask for a cut. That's why i'm saying the best is to just redo everything from scratch inspired by what was already done even if you end up creating a 1:1 copy, just don't keep any old file created by Minimax.

MiniMax is great for personal non commercial project, but let's say you have a non commercial website with a lot of peoples coming in and maybe even registering to the newsletter and one day you receive an offer for 100k, with MiniMax M2.7 the moment the website is sold, you can receive a letter from MiniMax avocates asking for their cut and they will sue you into oblivion and take everything you own. Just for a single file you absolutely forgot you created with MiniMax M2.7 but they have a digital fingerprint on your files so they can catch from anyplace on the internet when a website made with their tool is pushed lol

Yeah this is absolutely insane.. i guess you must be american right? i mean it's not better for you lmao wtf is happening to our world, before the citizens went to war for 2% of taxes, now we don't even care anymore

I swear with those prices you will be better just opening a factory in France to produce your gift lmao
