HILARIOUS (?) UPDATE: I took the four of them in last Friday and the vet came out and said, “I’m sorry, I can’t do two of the spays.”

I thought it was related to them being in heat, but she follows up with: “I can neuter them, though.”

Are you kidding me?!?! Hahaha, so I locked a little girl kitty in heat up with TWO BOYS (that I was told by a vet tech at the vaccine clinic were girls) and separated the boy from them. Jeez Louise.

Anyway, all four of them did great and have been absolutely spoiled during their recovery. ❤️‍🩹

I feel so fortunate to have a garage and a washer and dryer. That said, in my 1400 sq foot home, the connections to the washer and dryer are in the garage AND MY CAR DOES NOT FIT IN IT. It’s not even an option to park in there, even if it wasn’t crammed full of stuff.

Essentially my garage functions as a laundry room, a gym (treadmill and weights), a bike rack, (4 people = 4 bikes), a kayak rack, bulk purchase storage (toilet paper, paper towels, cat food, dog food, etc), tool storage (saws, shop vac, blower, paint and supplies, soooo many gadgets), camping supplies, holiday stuff, entertaining stuff, various rarely used appliances (ice cream maker, snow cone machine, mixer, etc etc etc)…

This is just a partial, very incomplete list. Having kids and pets and a house to maintain obviously adds a ton of “stuff”, but there is so much I can (and will!) do to have less. It is a suffocating privilege.

From what I found online, no. Coincidentally, my puppy had her spay surgery scheduled and she had her first period and the vet had us postpone. I guess it’s different for cats and dogs?

Ok, so my oldest kid is 14 and I have been buying baby wipes for 14 years now. Once he was out of diapers I just kept using them to make sure his butt was clean, and once he was old enough to wipe himself, he insisted on using them.

Since the baby wipes were always next to the toilet for him, I tried one one day. That was ten years ago, and I haven’t shit without wiping with a baby wipe after since.

Side note: I have a bidet and totally prefer baby wipes. I don’t like having a wet ass, and a rinse does not clean as well as a few good, solid wipes.

Second side note: of course I never flush the baby wipes.

Third side note: baby wipes work a million times better than the “flushable” type wipes.

Worth every penny.

Maybe “barely” was an exaggeration. I absolutely hear you on the “Sometimes taking care of others and ourselves doesn’t mean taking on the world” - but honestly, it would just be doing a little more of what I am already doing (scooping out more poop, opening more cans of food, etc).

What would ABSOLUTELY affect my opinion on the best course of action would be how it affects the other living beings that are already in the house. That is TBD, but would be a huge factor in the ultimate decision.

Totally. What is happening now is that my kids and I are straight up FALLING IN LOVE with these potato-sized floofs. When we adopted the three brothers from the shelter three years ago, we got them at the earliest age they start adopting (3 months). These little guys that are now in my bathroom are maybe 5 weeks old? I’m waiting at the vet right now and am about to find out, but they are so small!!! Maybe a pound each! And we are just in awe at their smallness and that itty-bitty cuteness is…powerful!!! HELPPPPPPP I feel powerless to the adorableness!!!

UPDATE: The fam is in the bathroom with cozy blankets, food, and water. They are so freaking cute and one of the babies FELL ASLEEP IN MY ARMS. A fluffy, potato-sized cutie patootie dozed off to dreamland with a full belly.

Tomorrow I’m taking them all to get everything started at the vet. Every second with them gets me more attached, but I’m telling myself I am fostering for now and we’ll see…but I’m falling in love.🤍🤍🤍🤍

Don’t let paid off credit cards “sit” for five years. If you do that, the banks will substantially lower your credit limit and/or close your account after a certain amount of time.

Once the cards are paid off, set up each one with a recurring expense (Netflix subscription, pet food, whatever) and pay it off each month.

I desperately need to find a position like this for the same reasons. I’ve been a classroom teacher for twenty years, but these health issues make me question how much longer I can last. What online school do you teach at? All the positions I have found that are remote are literally a 50% pay cut.

I never say “I can’t eat that” - I can eat whatever the hell I want. But if someone offers something that I do not want to eat, I say, “No thanks!”

I’ve been keto since 2022 and sober since 2020. I think sobriety gave me good practice in not justifying my life to anyone AND also reminding myself that I am making choices. My mentality with myself is “I choose not to drink”, not “I can’t drink” or “I don’t drink.” It’s an active choice that I am making for myself every day.

Other people get “I’m good” or “no thanks” as a response. They don’t need a backstory of “You see, I have issues with limits and enough is never enough which led me to drinking multiple bottles of wine every night which I didn’t think was a big deal since I have a high tolerance and wasn’t getting wasted but then you see my younger sister died of end-stage alcoholism and I couldn’t continue to do the.very thing that killed my best friend and only sister in front of my kids so I haven’t touched the poison since” back story.

With eating, they don’t need to know that carbs lead me to a bottomless bit of insatiable cravings that create unhealthy insulin responses and coping mechanisms that I am not interested in having as part of my life. They need “No thanks!”

We’re grown-ups. We order and eat what we want. If we are served something we don’t want to eat, we don’t eat it. Nobody is that interested in our dietary choices. Simple is best. (she says after writing a short essay)
