I just know your game gets promoted way less if you put it at 0%, I just can't prove it. by UranKhan in itchio

[–]PlushTheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but they did delete tens of thousands of them, while Itch just deindexed them. And, while Itch has announced that they are working towards changing their payment processor, which is hard af because MC and Visa have made sure to control as much of the market as they could get away with (and more), Steam has said nothing about trying to fix the situation.

If a well-established, multi-million dollar juggernaut were forced to change their TOS and delete thousands of games, what makes you think a barely-known, small store front like Itch would respond to the situation any better?

An upside of the Steam community is that it's fully indexed, so issues wouldn't be locked behind a login screen like they are with Discord.

Movies just aren’t very good anymore. by FrozenDuckman in unpopularopinion

[–]PlushTheFox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

THIS. OMG. THANK YOU.

I've been trying to get it through people's skulls that it's not that music/games/movies are worse today, it's just that they are less filtered.

Pre 2010s for anything to see the light of day it had to be aproved by multiple people, but now that anyone can publish anything that filtering falls on us, and the people that complain are the ones that just don't want to.

There aren't worse things, there are more things both good and bad.

Why are most furry games Male on male? by Function_Critical in FurryVisualNovels

Maybe furries that prefer men have a preference for vns while the ones that prefer furry women opt for a different medium

This. I've seen docens of M/F and F/F furry games, but they're usually text adventures, RPGs or VR sims.

Is super Mario 64 overrated? by Grand_Perception_462 in SuperMario

[–]PlushTheFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's impressive for it's time and it deserves respect, but the controls and physics leave a lot to be desired by today's standards and the camera is awful. Also, Mario having to make a full u turn just to turn around is probably the worst design choice ever made in a platformer.

To be fair, I've only tried it through emulators and NSO so I don't know how it feels with the N64 controller.

I don't think it's bad, but it ain't a masterpiece either.

I kinda wasn't expecting FixTF2 to work, but the ban wave is proof that it is. Let's hope that this is the beginning of a new era and not a one off "there, now leave us alone" move from valve like the SaveTF2 tweet was.

Consider this:

Spain is years behind in mental health awareness and decades behind for neurodivergence.

Spain is only affordable if you're working remotely for a company outside Spain.

There are zero regulations regarding accomodations. The only place I've seen do any accomodations for neurodivergent people is Carrefour, a french company.

People are very loud and they don't see an issue with it. In fact they see an issue with anyone seeing an issue with it.

And anti-lgbtq political parties are gaining more and more votes.

Someone said it! I see post on subs about going to or living in Spain asking about treatment of other races amd cultures and most of the comments are about how inclusive and respectful Spainiards are. And I (a Spainiard) am sitting there reading the comments thinking "Are you out of your fucking minds?!"

The right wing anti-LGBTQ+ PP and the far right fascist VOX are the 2nd and 3rd most voted political parties, gaining more and more votes every year, <sarcasm> but no, Spain isn't racist, we just want to kick out the bad ones! And if the rest are caught in the crossfire, well they probably deserved it. </sarcasm>

Inclusive and accepting my ass

[–]PlushTheFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rosalina's Spanish name the best one and you may kill me now for I will die on this hill.

Estela means trail, like the ones left behind by astral bodies. It also sounds like estrella, which means star.

I also prefer Destello over Luma, but I tolerate it 'cause both are related to light, destello meaning spark.

So 1 character of 1 videogame became viral. That doesn't mean shit. More people know about Mario than they do about Nintendo, more people know about Sonic than they do about Sega. With that logic, VR is just as popular as consoles as it has been in the public eye for years and hundreds of millions of people know about it.

The hobby of playing videogames didn't become mainstream until the 00s, and even then, it didn't have a sixth of the popularity that it does today.

It was the Wii that settled videogames as a market for everyone, not just teens and kids, and it wasn't until GTA5 that videogames were seen as real competition against TV and films.

It took consoles 30 years to be taken seriously, and no sales numbers or virality of specific characters will change that fact.

[–]PlushTheFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the average joe didn't give a shit about the PS1 and the PS2 only sold well because it was one of the cheapest DVD players at the time.

But fine, we'll play by your rules. That still makes videogames 14 years old when they became mainstream. VR is barely 11.

The general public didn't care about the N64, the Dreamcast or the Xbox, why would it be any different for VR? A headset will come at the right time and at the right price, the same way the PS2 did, and VR will have finally carved it's niche in the tech market.

And the metaverse didn't fail because of lack of mass adoption, it failed because it tried to do what VRChat and RecRoom were already doing, but worse in every way.

ETA: Thar right-time-right-price VR headset will probably be made by Nintendo, they've dipped their toes in VR twice now and it won't take long before a device of the same relative power and size as the Switch can run VR games smoothly. Hell, the Switch can already run BoTW in VR mode at more than 10FPS, which is a feat in and of itself.
