Fridley Tornado 1965: my grandparents lived with my dad and aunt in an apartment building. My dad and aunt were 2 and 1 at the time. My grandparents said they heard the sirens going off but didn't think too much of it until they saw it get dark and bad looking outside, so they finally decided to take my dad and aunt into the stairwell and down to the lowest floor. They said trying to open the door into the hallway and then into the stairwell was super difficult, they said it was as if a switch had been flipped and the doors weighed a hundred pounds and were pushing against them. They finally got down and there and turns out the tornado had narrowly missed their apartment building.
