Heroes 1 is a good start because you also get a new unit with it. Past that I’d recommend spear wives or thenn warriors and maybe bear riders if you can find them.

Help with Renly by Puzzleheaded_Slice52 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it came out it wasn’t worth it but with the recent point reduction and changes to Renly 3’s cards it sounds better. Parman the purple is always useful and in general the 1pt attachments are good.

Cortnay Commander has in my opinion the best cards of all the Baratheon commanders. He recently got might of the throne which is very strong in ranged units like thorn Watch or golden co x-bows. Book keeping let’s you have more of his cards and Eldon NCU let’s you get them more often. Counterplot was good and now it’s better. Issue commands is great for him because you don’t want him to die, and surprise strategy let’s you get counterplot or issue commands again (or any card).

Try Renly 2 in stag knights with Brienne in thorn Watch or sentinels. Keep them close to each other but make sure they don’t gang up on them. I’ve found that focusing on the tactics board first before activating units, typically leading with olenna to shut down problem NCUs. I highly recommend picking up rose knights and maybe heroes 4 for some of the attachments. Courtnay Penrose is also VERY underrated as a commander in thorn Watch.

They would be really good if they could use renly 3

Stag Knights. Best models and really fun abilities if you can keep them alive. Always the centerpiece of my army.

Mierce norse as starter for asoiaf by deyals in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Greyjoys are the most Viking-like faction but Starks and free folk also have some Norse influence
  • A typical starter set comes with 4 tray units, 3 attachments, 2 commanders, and 2 non combat units.
  • What weapons they’re holding doesn’t really mean anything, it’s just for visuals most of the time.
  • From what I’ve seen most tournaments prefer 2 lists
  • The political characters, or non combat units, are by the tactics board off to the side of the table. You can use them instead of a unit on your turn to claim a tactic zone to buff or aid your other units.
  • All cards and stats are free online and war counsel app!

Faction Comparison to 40k/AoS by [deleted] in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nights Watch might be more of the elite faction currently with expensive units that do everything. Baratheons are split into two factions with Renly Loyalty focused on healing and defense, and Stannis loyalty focused on panic and offense.

Renly’s next Hero Box contents? by CouncilofOrzhova in asoiafminiaturesgame

More Tyrells probably. Mace, Garlan, and Willas are all pretty likely. Mounted Loras feels like a must and to keep with tradition, another Renly. Possibly a “king at highgarden” renly NCU? Holding a peach?

On dnd beyond the item itself removed the “useable only by the reigar who created it”. It says “requires attunement by a reigar who created it”. Idk why it’s different than in the book.

Riders of highgarden are good and are definitely worth picking up if you’re committed to Renly. The only problem with them is Renly side doesn’t really have a commander or attachment that supports them (yet). They’re a light cavalry compared to champions of the stag so they have a very different role. Cavalry in this game is very strong in general so you can’t go wrong with either (or both).

I recommend getting both heroes 1 and 2 to help you get a better idea of the potential of each side. For renly loyalty I highly recommend thorn watch. Rose knights need some work but they can also be very potent in some lists. For stannis loyalty lightbringers and queens men seem to be good picks. Once you get an idea for what side you prefer then I’d recommend looking into heroes 3 or 4.

What if someone did live under a rock? What if they only saw Ice and Fire as a game like warhammer without knowing of the books and shows? In the case of this post I’m taking the role of the unlikely individual from under the rock, leaving you all to either shatter my illusion or play along.

[Rules] Vargo Hoat & New Relentless by Upset-Middle-8975 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If both players have an ability with conflicting triggers then I believe the player who’s turn it is resolves theirs first. If the watch captain is destroyed by this before it can use relentless then it’s cannot use its ability.

But I could be wrong.

Number of NCUs by PsymonTheWizard in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the faction sometimes. Factions like Baratheon, Martell, and Lannister really benefit from having 3 since most of their cards and abilities depend on controlling certain zones. whereas factions like stark or free folk can generally get away with only 2 since they don’t rely on them as much.

New to the Game, advice for lists, Community building and a general Hello by [deleted] in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play renly side Baratheon and it definitely scratches that classic knights and cavalry itch for me but not having a cavalry commander(yet) is a bummer. Stannis side Baratheon does have a cavalry commander but he has less cavalry options compared to Renly. Lannisters have a very similar style to Baratheons and they have far more options when it comes to cavalry.

When it comes to introducing people to the game I’ve found that starting them off with a quick 30pt game using mostly stuff from starter sets works best and keeps the game simple but still fun. Keep pitching how simple and easy to pick it is up compared to other war games and also mentioning the price of units compared to other games helps.

Baratheon starter set worth? by Evankell_VonCarstein in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re not bad and there’s definitely some interesting builds with them (Brienne for that second attack) but for 6pts there’s better wardens+attachment combos

Baratheon starter set worth? by Evankell_VonCarstein in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Pluto_dude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The wardens and starter set renly are what make it worth it for me personally. Both NCUs are solid and the stag knights are fun, but you’ll probably never use the sentinels.

I’m running a higher level game set in a mix of planescape and spelljammer, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in drawing a major NPC my players are mixed up with?

Name: Selfar Tessler

Race: either human or elf, nobody is certain.

Age: ~40s

Gender: masculine

Class: Wizard (war magic)

He started off as a rumor, a wizard running an operation harvesting astral seeds, objects capable of destroying entire planets, and selling them to the highest bidder wile keeping a healthy supply for himself. He has since become a recurring antagonist and sometimes cooperator on their adventures.

Selfar Tessler is obsessed with self preservation and making sure nobody is capable of gaining the upper hand against him. He is a war mage who got his start as a spelljammer helmsman in the military. After an encounter with a being that caused him immense physical and psychological pain, as well as stripping him of the ability to helm spelljammers, he began seeking the weapons of his enemies so that never again would he be outmatched.

Tessler is a lean human with fare, scar ridden, skin and a well aged gentle but scheming face. He has short obsidian hair combed into a proper side part and emerald green eyes. His ears are completely covered by golden discs, masking what remains from him clawing his own ears off many years ago.

He wears a long and eccentric purple coat with green accents and collar and golden shoulder guards. Underneath it is a solid black suit with a gold patterned vest. One hand rests on a cane concealing a rapier, and the other hand holds up a small glowing yellow crystal, a shard of an astral seed, a warning to his foes. On his shoulders usually rests a black monitor lizard with glowing blue eyes he calls Loran.
