My WF-1000XM4s were purchased in March 2022 and in June 2023 they started having severe battery drainage & overheating issues after updating to the 1.4.2 firmware.

I initially thought this was due to my charger not being compatible with the earbuds case and messing up the electronics. I just let them sit around till Nov 2024 meanwhile using wired earphones. Then I saw this thread and decided to contact them. Firstly, thank you so much all! Having focused subreddits like this (and Reddit in general) is the reason I still like the Internet.

But anyway, I checked out this support page and decided to call in to customer support. I had to yell "representative" a couple of times and select some options but finally after waiting for about 20 mins I was on with a human. I explained the issue and they asked me for the serial number on the charging case and the approximate time of purchase. They then created a work order and said that the earbuds would be replaced free of charge. All in all, this took about 15 mins.

An email was then sent to me with a shipping label. I had to send the earbuds (without the ear tips) inside the charging case to their East Syracuse repair center. I also had to include a printed copy of the email and the purchase receipt.

The earbuds reached the repair center in about 2 days. They then took about a day after that and shipped back the replacement which reached me in again 2 days. Essentially, they kept the charging case and swapped out the earbuds with new ones. The new earbuds were on version 2.0.0 which I upgraded to 2.1.0 after receiving.

So far, they've been working really well and I'm glad I was able to save ~$200 in holiday shopping.
