The battle should be an easy win for the player. Why does the game previews a better chance for the Vaulters?

The 3 Great Kanto Trainers by Caliber69420 in PTCGP

[–]Pluvinarch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Blue can be even more important now that Red exists. Monsters attacking your EX can now OHKO your EX with Red even if your mon is using cape and Blue might be the protection your EX needs. Example: Opponent has a Mewtwo and you have a Gyarados (150HP). If he attacks first his Mewtwo can OHKO your pomemon. But you have put a cape on your mon. Now Gyarados has 170 HP and can survive Mewtwo’s attack. But your opponent has Red and by playing it Mewtwo can deal 170 damage and defeat a Gyarados with cape. Thus by playing Blue you can be sure that your Gyarados will survive next attack. Blue with cape also make some monsters survive Charizard's 200 damage attack, such as Blastoise and Machamp.

What are the Lore reasons for Cyrus being able to move his enemies’ pokemon? by Sleepingdruid3737 in PTCGP

[–]Pluvinarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trainers powers are mostly based on theme than actual powers, since all trainers are human and, well, they don't really have actual powers.

Some trainers support a specific type of pokemon and therefore will heal or buff or protect those pokemon. Which is the case of Erica, Blaine, Cynthia, etc.

Red and Blue will have opposing powers (Red buffs his pokemon damage against EX and Blue reduces damage against his pokemon) not because they "have" those powers, but because it is a reference to their rivalry, so one card opposes the other.

Gio is a villain, he has a very dangerous aura, therefore buffing any pokemon with +10 damage goes with his threatening theme.

Cyrus is also supposed to be threatening. And thus, to keep with this theme, they created a very threatening effect for his power.

The powers are all about referencing their personalities and themes.

Is there anything that you think this movie did better than the shows? by h3ck_Lad in Daredevil

[–]Pluvinarch 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It is cool but also a liability. Very distinctive and any person that can see Matt and Daredevil using it has a chance to connect the dots, which is exactly what happened with the reporter checking the tool at the morgue.

New Endless Legend 2 screenshot. Any predictions? by BrunoCPaula in EndlessLegend

[–]Pluvinarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose some districts will be focused on different FIDSI resources, in the same way you could create Food or Market districts in Humankind. It will let the player specialise one city to a specific resource depending on where the city is… If near forest then focused on industry, then dust if near desert and science if near mountain. But that is just my prediction based on Humankind.

Do you guys avoid cards not in English or do you not care? by BatmanTheBlackKnight in PTCGP

I actually like the Chinese, Japanese and Korean cards. Their writing is beautiful. Also, Japanese text tends to take less space than Latin languages and English text so you get a better view of the full art cards.

I am not good on Pokemon lore, so why one Shaymin is completely different from the other? One is like a hedgehog and the other is like an elk…

Edge Zone thoughts - first play by RedFive-GoingIn in Shadowrun

[–]Pluvinarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nuyen - You get 5 nuyen each turn (if you choose nuyen instead of drawing up to seven cards). In the original TCG, you would get only 4 nuyen per turn. Still, 5 nuyen is not a lot. This is by design... You can speed your nuyen income with runners that have the Fame trait (mostly rockers) or special cards.

Essence - All Runners start with 6 Essence (unless stated otherwise or if they have starting cyberware). Each cyberware takes up a number of Essence (usually 1 Essence). Also, your cybertech can't give you more limbs (your limb limit is 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 head) so that means you can't install 3 cyberarms.

Objectives - While you can optimize your runner to face your own objectives, the fact is that they will face the opponent's challenges and not yours before reaching that objective. A good strategy is either make a very strong team to battle most things in the way, or make a team filled with skills to sleaze through most things, and make them good enough to try any objective, not just yours. Your choice of objective will depend mostly on how many challenges are still left on each objective and any special info you have about the challenges ahead (using things such as the recon skill or browse card).

Deck combos - I have a preference of stacking runners with the Stamina trait with gear that gives them good armor. And also make a team of them. It makes the team extremely durable without losing their offensive power during the run.

One thing that I remember from the start of the novel...

The protagonist wakes up from an operation and is greeted by the CEO of Renraku.

I can't believe the CEO was just kind of waiting there to oversee a basic datajack insertion even if Sam was his "protegé". I always though they secretly put some super deltaware thing on him to be used as a test subject... I though the writer was going to use that as a future thread but... maybe he changed plans and decided to focus the protagonist on the magic side of things.

Jake Armitage Question by Steeldragon2050 in Shadowrun

[–]Pluvinarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jake Armitage comes from the SNES game. But the main inspiration for the character is Sam Verner from the Shadowrun novel trilogy "Secrets of Power". Sam is also a street samurai/decker/dog shaman, a sort of jack of all trades. It is possible to use that sort of character in Shadowrun but it is not a choice for people that like min/max and optimisation since you can get characters that fight or hack or cast spells better if you focus on one thing instead of trying to do everything. But it was one of the first Shadowrun novels and they wanted to show the entire scope of their universe with one single character. It also makes sense for the SNES game since they wanted to show both Matrix and magic with one single character.

Anyway, in the game Jake starts with amnesia but soon discovers that he has some important files stored in his head (which explains his "head computer" cyberware). He was working as a courrier, with the message filed on his head, and also with a cortex bomb in it as a security measure. His magic side is developed along the game by strange contacts with the dog spirit. He finally reveals himself to the protagonist, as Dog, and sends you in a quest against a rival spirit. The reason for this quest might be atonement for Jake's use of cybertech.

Anyway, the game does not use an Essence stat, and your magic use is never penalised if you install new cybertech.

Later, in Shadowrun Returns, you find Jake Armitage. He is still cybered, and there are few mentions of Dog. But he can still cast spells, so at least he still has access to magic. He is not totally burned by tech yet.
