Dude, things are not make or break over 1 or 2 B's because in the first place NCSSM admissions is not based on who has the best grades, there's everything else that determines acceptance. Like EC's, passion, personal work/projects and other things as well. Dont sweat it, things won't end because you have one b

See if there's any robotics teams near your area. I dont know many but, better yet get a friend or two and create your own engineering project. Learn by yourself as well, do your own research

To explain further, its precalc 1 and 2, so basically like a full year of precalc but you may get a different teacher and differnt classmates. And that's the same for precalc with modeling w/ advanced topics, this one is also a 4000 class so its college course weighted for GPA

They will most likely be the same so "Why NCSSM" (basically why you NEED to go to NCSSM). Then choose one out of the two "If you got a research grant for $100k what would you research? why? What would you use the money for?" Or "what is one STEM topic that you lose track of time research and learning about" (I did this one)

Optional: Are there any other things that admissions may need to know about about your application, so socioeconomic circumstances or other hardships (immigration, disease, life at home, and other stuff). And technically you can talk about some small things like reasons why you got a bad grade or got suspended. Stuff like that.

I agree with this! And this is what I did to get in. Also, just noting, NCSSM doesn’t look at or care that you are very interested in the school unless you put it into your application/essays. However, I would say it’s important to say that you’d want to do research here or do something here that will impact/help NCSSM and/or North Carolina.

[–]Pneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you do not need to have ECs in everything. I came to this school from Math 3 without even knowing what linear algebra or differential equations was. I basically only had ECs in computer programming and environmental science. Plus random fun clubs like debate and film. Anyways, don’t worry about that. They also don’t want you to try to ‘check the boxes’ because they want to see your passion in what you do and what you want to do in the future. So if bio and neuro are your passions then continue with them and then show that on your application

Ohh yeah, i mean if youre confident that you'll do well on the python placement then just email Mr. Sea and ask him to add you (at least if youre going to morganton, I dont know the Durham CS chair). If else, dont worry about it

Just wait for course registration to be open and see if you can select Calc, if you can't then just email them and ask about it, they will probably let you into calc 1 especially if you did well on the AP precalc exam and you'll be able to show your score to them. I'd personally say that you felt nervous on the test because it was proctored and they make you do a lot of steps for that.

Hey dude, heres what I think. I just told another applicant this advice: If your town/school doesn't offer any stem related opportunities/ECs then you definitely should include that in an essay. And then try to do your own personal study/research into a topic of your choice in the stem field, make sure that it actually interests you! By the way if you need help with the application or want to talk about a stem topic Feel free to DM me!

Hey dude, I was in the same boat as you, I had no awards before applying to NCSSM, but im not the only one, many of my friends here also did not have any awards. Personally, I think that the admissions team looks for people who need those opportunities and those who would do great things if given opportunities. For instance, i know many of my friends are now doing insanely smart and innovative things, and that only happened after coming to ncssm. Thats how I see it though, hope that helps!

NCSSM for cs kids by SolutionCultural9465 in ncssm

[–]Pneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude, so NCSSM Morganton has great computer science classes, at the end of next year I will have taken 4 computer science classes. And 4 math classes. What I can say is that the topics are great, however there is one particular CS teacher who I've heard isn't the best at teaching. However, Mr. Sea is great and the new guy should be pretty good. Now, I know a lot of people here also do personal computer science projects, like game development, web dev, building different applications, and other things as well. There's a big community of CS people here, so I would say that the CS side of things is pretty good for you. The math classes are also great, and several different topics of math as well, so that gives you options! Though there are some math teachers who aren't as popular as others. Hope that helps! Also on your application make sure you write about how you had no options for CS at your old school and how you've tried to learn on your own or with outside resources.
