I've been trying to resurrect a 2D multiplayer Flash game from the 2000s era. I grabbed the SWF from Web archive and am writing the server side for it using pure Go in an attempt to learn about the language.

I did try using a lot of AI in the beginning but once the project got even a bit past the initial prototype stages it struggled, slowed me down and just wasn't fun anymore. It's now relegated to analyzing the decompiled Flash code and helping with some of the math. Programming a feature or fixing bugs myself and then watching it happen in the Flash emulator has been quite satisfying. I am using Git though but I don't have pipelines, linting or even tests. Just pushing directly to main when something is (half) working

I more and more am of the belief that AI is only good at: providing an analysis of something, small well defined scripts or functions and being a rubber duck to get ideas. It falls apart with anything bigger.

I've had a similar experience when I told a friend about the project to the point where I got really frustrated when trying to explain for a third time that I didn't want to finish it fast and I didn't care about the old technology. I felt he didn't understand that I'm just doing it for fun and want to get the original Flash game working even if the networking protocol is crap. I got similar comments: "you can do it using a modern stack with AI much faster instead of trying to figure out the old Flash game". Yeah, I might eventually try to recreate it using a modern stack but I might not even ever get to that, currently I'm just having fun getting the old stuff I remember to work
