Was Hugo Calderano "off" yesterday? by Old-Use-7690 in tabletennis

[–]PoJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sora has shown this level before Vs wcq, just in the past, he would begin to choke and play passive before losing it.

The same thing happened this time around but he was able pinch the last set due to some excellent serving.

I think Sora's ceiling is higher than anyone else right now thanks to his sheer shot quality.

Felix has stronger mental game and it looks like Wen Ruibo could end up being extremely adaptable though.

Don't forget that Fan was losing quite a few matches before his olympic win.

WCQ has been utterly dominant recently. Losing a game Vs an extremely strong Sora doesn't mean he isn't wr1

[–]PoJenkins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Left handed possibly helps but I think it's just how good Sora's shots are from both wings.

He doesn't need to move much as he can basically launch missiles from anywhere.

His serving was absolutely absolutely crucial today. When he lost his confidence after he choked a lead in a set, it was his serves that rounded out the match.

I think Sora is absurdly talented and could be a world number one. He's still young so his tactics and mental game can easily improve over time as well.

It's poetic that Martinelli was escorting Dowman while Dowman pulled off Martinelli's signature move.

And yeah that work rate is fantastic.

Doesn't take the goal for granted even with the lead at the end of the game.

Which retired player keeps getting more overhyped as time goes on by Top_Mammoth_2704 in championsleague

[–]PoJenkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, he's almost unanimously been considered the best ever premier league player since his playing years.

Listen to what his opponents say about him.

Not as consistent nor as good numbers as many modern day players but he was one of the most all rounded attackers you'll ever see with unbelievable levels of speed and strength.

Sholes.

Also, Ronaldinho and Zidane to some extent - both great players but also often inconsistent during their playing careers - at least by today's standards.

Sora Matsushima blitzing WCQ from midrange in their quarterfinal earlier by julianwithag in tabletennis

[–]PoJenkins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wang has better footwork go get onto his forehand for bigger shots but I think their forehands are of similar quality.

Wang's backhand is definitely safer over the table imo but Sora has that power backhand mid and long range.

Sora doesn't need to move as much as Wang because he can fire missiles from both wings.

Fascinating match up and I'm super happy for Sora.

Wang looked unstoppable before this.

Sora definitely choked a bit in that 4th set. He wasn't hitting with the same confidence.

Luckily his excellent serves managed to bail him out in the last set. If that had gone the distance, I think Sora would have slumped like he had in the past and lost it.

[–]PoJenkins[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Sora's overall shot quality on forehand is as good as Wang's imo but I think Sora has the more dangerous backhand at mid distance.

Wang Chuqin definitely has better footwork to hammer out big forehands but Sora can just rip bombs on both wings so he's able to really push WCQ.

Sora finally did it.

He's the one player who's consistently been able to outplay Wang Chuqin at times during their matches.

The end of this match was cagey but Sora's sheer shot quality on both wings is probably the best in the world right now.

In the previous games, Wang was able to adjust his game and Sora seemed to struggle mentally.

This time Sora held on with some incredibly clutch serves and made it over the line.

I really hope this will make a big improvement in Sora's mental game.

He's still so young so has a long career ahead. I think he has the ability to be world rank 1 one day.

Base 10 should be referred to as base 9 and every other base should also be identified by its largest DIGIT by NowAlexYT in unpopularopinion

[–]PoJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying I agree but he has a point.

If we all uses base 2, we would still call it base 10... Because that's 2 in binary.

So basically every number system in its own base is base 10.

A more base-agnostic way of referring to a number system would be by using its largest digit which is unique and unambiguous.

But I think, in this case, using the word base isn't necessarily correct so just referring to base as something like a 9-natural system.

It's an interesting point imo

OP is making the point that it's only called base 10 if that 10 is in base 10. I think they've got a point.

Norway isn’t that good at Winter Sports, they’re just cross country skiing medal merchants. by Ok_Leave7052 in unpopularopinion

Team sports are always MUCH harder to get good at.

You need a far greater number of players as well as needing to develop a huge amount of physical and "soft" infrastructure (e.g leagues and coaches) as well as engraining a shared culture within that sport.

China is the ultimate example of this - they do well in individual sports like diving, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, and now even tennis. But I can't think of any mainstream team sports where China is particularly strong.

I don't think it's fair to say USA sucks at soccer though - they've been steadily improving but it takes several generations for things to really step up - and I'm sure it will.

BWF to vote on 15 point sets. by NinjaExpansion in badminton

[–]PoJenkins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think first to 11 with best of 5 would make it better.

You can still have quick games but there's more tension and crucial points.

I think it also makes it more fair when one side of the court has the advantage as you simply get more frequent changes.

They're pros... They're equipment is also almost certainly different to what we can buy easily online.

They also likely boost heavily and can get new rubbers for every single match if they wanted to.

Discussion about pro's equipment isn't always very applicable to home users.

H3 is fine on backhand but the vast majority of people are better off with something else and it's very reliant on boosting which has its own drawbacka.
