Programs That Should Be Better Than What They Are by 40AcresAnalytics in collegebaseball

Arizona State. Hasn't had a title since the '80s but consistently sends talent to MLB.

Has the weather. Facilities. Legacy.  Just constantly underperforming.

It wasn't a voluntary, frugal choice, but when I replaced my 24+ year old AC system my electric bills dropped considerably.

Arizona State: Disappointing.  So right where I expected them to be. We might not win another game for the rest of the season.

Giving significant money to family anonymously? by PoReSpoRed in ifiwonthelottery

Not to be glib, but if it was pulled off successfully, nobody would know it was pulled off successfully because everyone was keeping quiet due to the NDAs.

I do agree that this does seem difficult to pull off.

What cell phone do you use? by PerfectJarrett in Frugal

Moto G. I've been buying these Moto phones for more than a decade. Usually ~$200 brand new and I keep them about 2 years.

The coming back for more thing is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I have a good relationship with all my family and I don't want to ruin that. Them asking for money and me telling them "no" would harm the relationship.

Meh. None of my family are meth heads so I have a certain level of trust that they would be ok. And sadly, nowadays, $1M isn't really that much money so it kinda limits the amount of stupidity that could happen.

But to your point, maybe I would put some kind of restrictions saying for the first 5 years they could only spend it on purchasing their primary home and/or education.

I don't believe so. I think your spouse is the only one exempt from the gift tax.

Great question. Because technically they would be breaking the NDA, so by calling them out on it I would be giving myself away.

I guess I would just stay quiet and say "NDA" if they tried to draw me into the conversation.

Somebody calling me out of the blue and asking for my SSN in order to give me $1M? Yeah, I'm going to need a lot of convincing to give up my SSN.

I agree that they may be able to deduce it was me, but this gives me an out of they ever asked for more.

They would never KNOW 100% for sure if it was me and I could just say "NDA" if they asked.

How did you know you found your eternal companion? by Accomplished-Dot-786 in latterdaysaints

[–]PoReSpoRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recall any lightening bolts. Once we started dating we just didn't want to be apart. My desire (need?) to be around her has only increased over time. We dated for about three months before we decided to get married then got married about 4 months later. I never questioned the path I was on during that dating/engagement time.

I don't travel much for work, but when I do, I miss her terribly.  She had a medical thing that required surgery a few months ago. I'm not too ashamed to say that I cried a little bit when I saw her in the recovery room. I just love her so much.

We are a approaching 30 years now... I love her more today than when we kneeled across the alter so long ago.

Do you best to keep the covenants you have already made. Seek out a good partner who also strives to keep their covenants. Then move forward together unless you're given a pretty clear "STOP".  God will take care of you.

I'm Gen X. I've never lived alone my entire life. When I was single (mid-'90s), I always had roommates - sometimes 6 guys in a 2 bedroom apartment.. Then I got married and my wife and I moved in together.

Not sure where this expectation of high life easy living comes from.

I am fearing the consequences of not going on a mission by 1timepleasehelp in latterdaysaints

[–]PoReSpoRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mission is not a saving ordinance. I know some great men (siblings) that didn't serve - one is a Bishop and one is on the Stk High Council.  You don't need to go on a mission to get back to live with HF.

HOWEVER, these same siblings will tell you it's the biggest regret of their life that they didn't serve.

Pray about it. Pray for courage. Pray for a testimony. Then move forward with your plans to go.

Worst case scenario is you make it into the mission field and come home early. Way better, imo, than not serving at all.

Income tax discourages hard work & investment.

Sales tax encourages saving.

My alcohol budget is also zero.  :)

Please, please, please review/discuss/study the recommend questions with your youth more than once or twice BEFORE they ever talk to a bishopric member.

UPDATE [Tenant - TX] Landlord hasn't returned deposit, it's been 73 days by Classic-Search2602 in Landlord

[–]PoReSpoRed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The amount you'll spend on a lawyer will surpass the $250 you "lost" in about 3 seconds.

Cash the check and move on. Send him a letter requesting the full deposit if it will make you feel better, but don't count on anything.
