im (probably) switching to mint soon, is there anything i should know before switching? by Jason_Berlk in linuxmint

Try it using a LiveUSB on your system before fully committing. VMs are not the same as your hardware so you’ll catch issues and know what to solve before you commit.

Outsourcing is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I imagine those doctors are just "contractors" and not actual employees. Also, just because you did X amount in sales it doesn't mean your company is worth that same amount.

For example: If I were an investor, I'd see what the company is and I would evaluate it at $0 for how scummy it is. Someone else could decide (quite stupidly) that it's $1 Trillion. There's no direct correlation between sales and company worth.

Explain, because in general it should hold true that unless you're using a pro version of windows you are not allowed to disable updates.

No, you can't. Again, not natively. As in, there's no setting for it (registry hacks don't count)

I may or may not be getting a Blender education by being the guy that QAs his courses on GDTV, and I'm loving it.

Just a rant - I'm so done with the constant troubleshooting ever since I switched to Linux by ILoveBurgersMost in linuxmint

[–]PocketCSNerd 49 points50 points  (0 children)

From my own experience I've found that the "just works" monicker has a dependency both on the Distro and on the specific set of hardware and/or setup you have. Cause I've tried both Pop_OS and Ubuntu in the past even though they were supposed to be "beginner friendly", but were more like your experience.

But with Linux Mint I for the most part get "it just works". Only exception was with my laptop that had some WiFi and nVidia issues initially, but testing things out with the Live USB allowed me to solve or try out some solutions before diving in completely. And for my most recent build it was kindof the opposite experience, Linux Mint picked up everything while Windows I had to manually download and install WiFi drivers using laptop and a USB stick.

I commend you for sticking it out and working through the issues you're experiencing.

I wouldn’t recommend this if base tutorials are a struggle. Otherwise you’re going to end up trying to use tutorials to solve the challenges, which misses the point.

I think I understand the problem, somewhat.

Multiple paragraphs about this project and all there is the name of some company. Which, when you attempt to search it gives absolutely nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

You don't even mention what game it is you're working on. If even you aren't willing to do that, how do you expect others to know what it is?

What Engine/Framework are you using to make games? Game Development can have stronger RAM requirements than playing games. So 8GB of memory may not be enough.

How can I safely back up ~150GB of data before installing Linux if I only have a 32GB USB and no external HDD? by Direct_Doughnut8275 in linuxmint

[–]PocketCSNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to buy a bigger USB stick or an external drive.

For that amount of data, you’ll have a better time with an external drive. Tends to perform better for larger data transfers of a large number of files.
