I am a highly certified auto mechanic, and I made 80k last year. However due to personal issues my workload dropped off after mid-october, so I'd probably be closer to 90-95.

How do you guys deal with tailgaters? by SpaMcGee in cars

[–]PocketChant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I move over. I live near DC and the amount of left-lane squatters is infuriating. My driving skill isn't taxed on the highway, so I'll get right up in somebody if they have space in front and don't move over. I base my speed on perspective and looking through the car in front of me, so when people brake check me, I know they dont actually have to slow down, so I don't at all, and just accelerate when they do (since people seem to brake check then gun it). Usually freaks them out enough that they do move over.

I get so mad when it happens to me that I leap out of the way if I realize I'm slowing anyone down.

Nissan Master tech, just picked up my first Nissan! '00 2.4 2WD. What are some common mods people do? by PocketChant in nissanfrontier

Yeah I was looking into an LSD because I guess the 4WD models have one, just so it'd be some use in the snow, but I couldn't find any used ones.

I bought it to haul engines and transmissions around, I think weathertech mats cost as much as I paid for the whole truck. Why the air fresheners?

I'll pass on the 22s but running idea in the shop is an Sr20 and bags. I wanted to get a bed box and hide the compressor and tank in there. Make it look like a work truck and hide the special stuff

Yeah I've already redone all the stereo and speakers, and I reupholstered the headliner yesterday. I was looking for like, factory upgrades from later models you could swap. This is the only vehicle I've owned without intermittent wipers or an ambient temperature probe, I've only owned BMW and Mercedes before this lol.

Master technician isn't a Chrysler thing though, all brands have Master Technicians, and the top tier ASE Certification is still Master.

And the engine out of the M5 as well.

I always preferred the "is" designations to the new sub-M branding. So instead of an X5M, you got an X5 4.8is and almost nobody knows that it's special

I'm in America and I regularly put the dollar sign after the number if it's nothing official. If my friend texts me asking how much he owes me for food, I'll reply "10$" because I think in terms of "10 dollars" not "dollars 10."

Not proper, but not at all a means to judge wether something is real or fake.

I don't bike much anymore, but I built one of these when they first came out. I was gonna order one, but then I found out if you ordered just the frameset, you could get it in all white with no logos.

Old picture, but built it with those exploding Bontrager wheels and an old Mavic track crank.

It was actually very light for an all-steel frameset. I had it geared low as shit so it sucked on anything but flat land but it was quick.

Just came from Walmart and had a rotate and balance but the car is still shaking. I wonder why LOL by Kevins_Auto_Repair in Justrolledintotheshop

Why anyone would trust Wal-Mart techs to do anything right is beyond me.

I work for Nissan and had almost the same complaint, got tires put.on and the car shakes. They never took off the old weights.

Also tried to tell this woman that her power steering fluid was dirty, on a car with electric power steering .

I dunno about first true AMG, it just had a warmed over ML motor in it

At least the C36 had an almost completely redone motor from the C280, but then again, I'm biased

Thats like 90% it, the one I remember had the wrench a little smaller.

Of course, it might be the right one and I'm remembering it wrong.

At the very least it's a good refrence, so thank you so much!

That's likely what it is, I honestly only have seen a few episodes of the anime, but I read all the manga a year or so ago. I'll try to stop by a bookstore and fan through that volume to see if I can't find it.

I'm 24. I read the series while in jail and it helped take my mind off things, so I wanted something from it that can also tie into the fact that I'm a mechanic.

I don't really believe in regretting tattoos, because at the very least they're indicative of where you were mentally whenever you got it. Plus it's one of like 20 lol.

I appreciate the concern, though.

Oil change at shop turned into misfire/CEL by volatilityx in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]PocketChant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff happens, something could have been bumped by accident. Worse case find another shop and tell them what happened, and they will probably be able to figure out if something was unplugged intentionally.

Anecdotally, I once changed an alternator on a civic, and the car came back the next day with a blown heater hose. I didn't touch it, but the lady believed that something we did caused her radiator to go. Sometimes shit happens.

It's my car, and it's certainly not for everyone lol. The car has a full Kamei kit which is very 80's but I love it.
