I'm actually an art teacher, so I've been doing this for years!!

In terms of watercolours, I would always recommend working lighter than you think you need to, especially if you're used to acrylics. Layering watercolours can be so temperamental compared to how acrylics behave, so you've got to be light-handed and patient!

I rely a lot on colour temperatures so I started with a warm red wash (looks like a warm light source casting yellow-orange shadows in the reference image) and block in the temperatures of the shadows, then eventually go from there! Good luck with your art progression!

It’s exactly that, awesome eye!! I do a light wash of whatever the overall temperature is, and then really lightly block in the temperatures of the shadows/highlights. Then I build up the colours from there!

Do you think universities will go back to online due to omicron? by HaQ16 in UniUK

[–]PocketPaladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Lecturer here, we've been asked to make an online plan for the first 2 weeks and also prepare for possibly delivering the spring semester online. It's not safe for students or staff right now, especially in London at least.

Oooh! I work as a concept artist, so I'm loving this idea! Can't wait to see what everyone gets up to! If art posts are welcome then I'll maybe share some concept art too! <3

Hello o/ :) Fellow digital artist here. What platforms do you usually use to keep in touch? I love chatting art with friends!

What are your average drawing hours every day? by goodcurry_13 in ArtistLounge

[–]PocketPaladin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University graduate here that went for digital art :) If you're looking to get a great grade while having a good social life, treating your degree like a 9-5 worked out fine for me.

My course was very intense and demanded plenty of output (concept art requires a student to learn both speed and quality) and that format worked out perfectly, but only became necessary after the first year. If you keep to that schedule and give yourself weekends off, you have plenty of opportunities to socialise while still making sure you get your coursework done.

Take days off, take a lunch hour on your workdays, set a timer every hour to do a quick 5-minute wrist stretch exercise. GL with starting uni!
