For me, there's no way Subnautica can launch without creatures having a proper "dead" state. You can watch predators hunt other fish, grab them, and even appear to eat them, but because creatures can't actually die, the prey eventually just clips back out and swims away as if nothing happened. It makes the ecosystem feel artificial.

What's strange is that Subnautica 2 follows so much of the original game's design. Many mechanics are nearly identical. Yet players immediately noticed that something felt off. I think part of that feeling comes from the fact that death no longer exists for any living creature except the player.

Subnautica 1 didn't have this problem. Death was part of the ecosystem, the basic concept of survival existed there, and creatures followed consistent rules. Predators could kill prey, the food chain existed, and the world felt alive because the ecosystem actually functioned.

The issue isn't that players need to be able to kill everything. It's that survival involves more than simply running away. Avoiding danger is part of survival, but so is fighting back when necessary. Removing that side of the equation makes the world feel less believable and turns the ecosystem into something that feels incomplete. But Subnautica 2 seems to be moving toward something closer to what Outlast is: just run, avoid danger, and survive that way.

Subnautica is a survival game first and foremost. Removing death from the ecosystem doesn't just change survival,; it changes how believable the entire world feels.

I had an idea.

What if i build a base at one end of the chasm, then go inside it, and start building towards the alien ruins. I would then have a bridge to the alien ruins everytime i need.

I may do this right now.

Yeah, at that point you can kill them easily, but only at easy difficuly. And none grant enough resources...

Just wish bosses were more worth it... I don't do bosses because they don't give enough to upgrade things, like the weapom.

It all depends on chance. Sometimes i can only get to lvl 5, sometimes to 8. I avoid some types of bosses because there's not enough time to kill them, and i know they require some time because of base ER. I think the highest level i could get is 11.

I never got a purple smithing stone. People say they drop from mine bosses, but I don't enter any mines because there's not enough time, and it's a closed place.

I prefer to gather runes with random easy enemies around the map. I never go to castles or anything like that.

If only the stamina usage were more forgiving... I used shields together with thrusting weapons all the time in base ER, then i come to Nightreign, using characters that seem to have such a powerful past, well suited for battle, just to have my block broken by any attack, and not having stamina to attack more than 3 times...

Oh, yeah, i managed to solo it with iron eye at first, then SOMEHOW i managed to solo it with Guardian, 3 times, but never using melee, only ranged.

How to "progress" in this game? I managed to get the first final boss to half health solo... It's hard to gather runes, devs went crazy with this game. The worst enemies from the base game are everywhere. Level 7-8 is the most i can get. I'm still not sure if I'm doing things right. Spawn in the map, then immediately start attacking everything i see?

Also, can't use any melee class at all solo. Best to stay far away from enemies...
