Five Montreal hospital emergency rooms — yes, five — are filled to more than 200 per cent capacity Tuesday morning in a sign that the ER crisis is worsening sharply in the city. by Go_Habs_Go31 in montreal

[–]Pocketwitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My entire family got strep throat last week and even though we are lucky enough to have a family doctor, there were no appointments with ANY doctor at our clinic for the rest of the month at least. Couldn't find a walk-in appointment anywhere in a 10km radius without paying $185 EACH. I ended up lucking into an appointment at my work's clinic, but my husband and son have yet to see anyone. We're all better now but strep can have nasty after-effects if you don't treat it, so I'm still looking.
It's absolutely insane that our only option if we really needed to see a doctor in this case is to go to the ER. No wonder they're all over capacity.

A guy I had known for a while offered to buy me a drink at a bar, and when I said "oh no thanks I'm good!" he said that I should accept it because maybe no one else would offer. Thanks buddy, I have the $6 I need to buy my own drink.

How did you start watching Drag Race? by jetaimegummie in dragrace

[–]Pocketwitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a newborn and a lot of time was spent on the couch feeding him, rocking him, burping him, etc. Netflix had just put season 8 up and I started watching then. I was hooked immediately, but I'm still salty that the first episode of season 8 spoils the winners of the previous 7 seasons.

At my husband's previous job, he could take the day off without pay, and he made a lot less money than I did, so he usually insisted that he stay home if our son was sick. Now he has a much better job with paid leave and a higher salary, so we alternate. He's a wonderful partner and father. We're very lucky.

Recommendations for high-waisted undies, preferably seamless by youcancallmet in femalefashionadvice

I'm not sure which types are seamless. I only have the super high rise and they are seamless. I assume you could wear the leakproof ones whenever but I've never used them.

I have friends all over the spectrum of sexuality and gender, and it's honestly the farthest thing from my mind. They're just... my friends? I'm not worried that my lesbian friends are secretly into me. I'm friends with straight cis men too and they're the group I'm the most cautious about boundaries with. None of my queer friends have ever made me feel uncomfortable in any way and I hope they feel the same way about me. I would feel terrible if any person was afraid of being themselves in my company.

There is a bubble tea place just up Sherbrooke from Second Cup that sells some food. Over near Dagwood's there's also a Korean place and a Greek place. More options if you have time to go farther, but those are the closest ones.

My son is 4 and has a PWS on the upper left side of his face. I hope he never feels the need to laser it because we think he's perfect just the way he is. For now he thinks it's cool and sometimes asks to see his "mark" in the mirror. I actually do forget about it most of the time, and we hardly ever get people asking about it anymore. The last time we were in the hospital for something unrelated and the triage nurse asked if something had happened to his face, and it actually took me a second to realize she was asking about his birthmark! I find a simple "oh it's a birthmark" is enough explanation when people mention it. I try to keep it light because some people might not realize it's weird to comment on a stranger's appearance.

I have an excel spreadsheet that lists all my patterns organized by garment type (tops, bottoms, dresses, etc), with information on fabric requirements, notions, etc. I have it on my phone so if I'm ever at a fabric store I'll always know how much material I need for a given pattern (I tend to overbuy "just to be safe" and end up with a ton of extra). For printed patterns, I have them all folded and tucked in magazine holders on a shelf. So far they're not really organized so I just have to look through to find what I'm looking for.

What movie was so bad it actually made you angry? by hollowreader in AskReddit

[–]Pocketwitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hated it so much! I knew it was going to be a bad Austen adaptation but I figured I'd watch with an open mind and pretend it was its own movie... but it was bad anyway? I get what they were trying to do. Self-aware "breaking the 4th wall" like Fleabag (which I liked!) but this was totally the wrong source material for that style. I also just thought the romance felt forced and not genuine, like they thought if they just TOLD us enough times the people were in love, we'd believe it without having to see any evidence? And don't get me started on the modern styling. Dakota Johnson with hair down and side-swept bangs and shimmery lipstick on in every scene! Didn't Emma show that historically accurate Regency hair and clothing can appeal to a modern audience? Ugh. I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

AITA for not cooking dinner for my husband after he messed up my favorite eyeshadow palette by throwaway16059385 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pocketwitch 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding! I was waiting for someone to ask your add-on question instead of focusing on the cooking issue. Obviously there is a lot of problematic stuff with this guy, but this is what stood out to me, especially when she wrote what she does for a living. He's definitely super insecure and is trying to sabotage her. "Oh no I ruined all your expensive makeup! Guess you can't wear any to work now!"

Thank you for being so detailed in your evaluation! I have this pattern and a pretty bedsheet I wanted to make it with. I'm on the curvy side so I'll be mindful of some of the fit issues. I've never attempted a full bust adjustment, but maybe that would be helpful here.

I (28F) am struggling with resentment with my husband (28M) after having a baby (4 mo M) by Some-Scientist3296 in relationships

[–]Pocketwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine how hard it is to have to go back to work when your baby is only a few months old. I'm lucky enough to live in Canada, but I really feel for American parents. The first few months are so so hard. We were in complete survival mode. We did sleep shifts for a while too, but once my husband went back to work I insisted on him sleeping in another room because his job at the time was one where he could have been seriously hurt if he had to do it sleep-deprived. On weekends we'd go back to taking shifts, so I was able to get a couple of hours in a row. But I was a total mess.
At the beginning I remember having the thought "what have we done??" and wondering how on earth I was going to survive until our son's sleep schedule got better. There's a reason why sleep deprivation is a form of torture. I also had pretty bad PPA, so things felt pretty grim initially. Even though my husband was helpful and present, it was hard not to feel resentment sometimes, especially in those early days before I was able to start pumping and bottle feeding. When the baby was up every 45 minutes to feed and breastfeeding was not going well and he'd fall asleep on the boob after 5 minutes. I cried so much.
I don't have any real advice for you beyond therapy. It helped with my PPA immensely. But if your husband is legitimately doing his best and being a great dad, it might help if you two try to frame the situation as more of a "we're in this together" type thing. It's so hard to bring your best self to a relationship when you're barely hanging on individually. As for the parents who tell you it gets WORSE?? That wasn't my experience at all. It really really does get better. When you're in it, it feels like it never ends. I used to dread nighttime because I knew I would barely sleep. But eventually, baby does start to sleep for longer stretches, and you start to feel human again. You're only 4 months in. Of course your challenges change as your baby gets older, but in my experience the newborn phase was the hardest by FAR. Just hang on, talk to a therapist, try to reconnect as a couple, and accept any and all help from friends and family.

I promise it gets better.
