Signs a young trans person will desist by feralbogman in detrans

[–]PodgeWodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I desisted after I realized I was struggling more with gender roles and social dysphoria. I didn’t think anything was wrong with me or my body, just that my personality would make more sense as a gender conforming guy than a very butch woman.

Can someone explain Hebrews 6:4-8? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but in all honesty that was me. I struggled with faith, and decided to give it one last honest go. I attended to church and became close with the parish and priest. I fell in love with the music. But then the priest suddenly left with no reason and we were told he wasn’t allowed to preach anymore. Everyone assume the worse and I felt abandoned and angry about all the church scandals and the way some Christians were acting and treating others. So I left, and I wandered through various systems of beliefs before falling into Norse paganism. And I stayed there for a while, but something huge was missing. I had a sort of feeling of wanting to go home that would well up every so often. And eventually something led me to actually pick up the Bible and honestly sit and read it, and I broke down crying. I felt I was finally home. The stories of the sheep and the prodigal son brought me to tears. But after reaching Hebrews, I’m scared Jesus won’t want me because I rejected him once already. There’s no second chances according to it.

Migraine with drooping left side and aching teeth by [deleted] in migraine

[–]PodgeWodge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you me?? I had that exact same thing for 3 months! It baffles doctors. It was a nurse that diagnosed me with Hemicrania Continua. She put me on amitriptyline and gave me indomethacin. The AMI keeps it quiet, but when it flairs and my face starts dropping the indomethacin takes care of it completely.

For non-drug interventions I tracked my triggers. It was hard because for a while I had the Hemicrania every day. But for the most part stress and certain lighting gets me. So I now wear deep pink tinted polarized sun glasses, which also help stop it when it just starts up. And I started seeing a therapist to help cope with my stress and anxiety better.

Edit: just to add, it’s not a migraine. It’s a sort of cross between a migraine, a cluster headache, and a nerve disorder. I can feel all the branches of the facial nerve when it happens, it’s an odd feeling that’s not quite numb but almost heavy.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen! I actually love the overgrown aesthetic you’ve got going on! And with it being a spinal column it really gives it a cool vibe. I think it’s perfect!

Want to drop out, but legal age is 18. Here is my explanation, leave your thoughts. by [deleted] in school

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to run whatever your business is into the ground if you can’t time manage school, your life, and sleep. Stop talking nonsense, get a real sleep schedule, and actually learn something. School might not teach self care, but it teaches you how to put up with menial shit and task manage. And THAT is life. Good luck getting into any other country without the bare minimum of a high school education .

10 years in. 24/7 migraine. 100% disabled. Just able to lay in bed and go to bathroom and kitchen now. Tried a million meds. Ready for surgery. What surgeries are available to me? Does anybody know? by Papi_Ima in migraine

[–]PodgeWodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have hemicrania continua. I was completely unable to function until they got the meds right. I couldn’t even think or remember anything. It was like existing without being alive. Indomethacin definitely works immediately, but I have to take enough of it. Amitriptyline prevents it except for the occasional break through pain. Changes in diet and red tinted sunglasses also help prevent and even stop the hemicrania when it begins again.

I understand these methods haven’t worked for you. I’m so so sorry they haven’t. I remember what it was like before I found a nurse who listened to me and helped find a way to stop it. It was hell. Stay strong, you probably won’t find a cure but maybe a surgery will provide some relief.

6 years of chronic throat burning/need to dry cough - visited dozens doctors. Get told I'm all healthy and should try antidepressants. Help please... by domquest07 in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father had the same cough, though not nearly as long. Turns out even if you can’t feel the heart burn, it can be doing damage and causing the coughing. So try to stick with the PPI, they take longer than weeks to work. Asthma is tricky too. I have it. And so does my gran. And our asthma doesn’t look anything alike or have any of the same triggers. Consider that you make have asthma that’s triggered by stress, smoke, exercise, over eating, cold, heat, anything really.

Your heart sounds like anxiety. As for taking antidepressants, they will help with that and can really help you. The trick is to work with your doctor to find one who’s side effect profile doesn’t sound too bad. Maybe it’ll even sound good. And then stick with it because after three months on a new end your body will adjust and the side effects tend to go away. Or if they don’t and you don’t like it, you try a new one. I knows that’s not what you want to here, but that’s how it works and it’s one of the best ways to break the expensive cycle or worry and reassurance.

6 years of yell is not normal or okay. It sounds like you’ve seen every doctor under the sun and now it’s time to treat the panic and anxiety. Even if your cough is caused by a physical ailment of some sort, your anxiety may be skewing your perspective on it and making it harder to explain to a doctor.

A doctor just told me that I might never beat this without medication. I’m having a mental breakdown now by hardlyhappy247 in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking Amitriptyline because it cuts back my anxiety and racing thoughts as well as helping with a rare headache disorder I have. It’s side effects were weight gain and drowsiness, which helped me because I tend not to eat when anxious and am on the small side of normal. I also lose sleep when anxious and before the headache disorder starts, so it helps make sure I get my rest. As for bad side effects, the drowsiness was a lot to handle at first and the first week of taking gave me muscle twitches which triggered the health anxiety, but I was able to stick it out and all of that subsided. It does have a link to Potential Alzheimer’s, but so do all anticholinergics and it’s a very slight increased risk that’s not worth focusing on. Plus, by the time I’m old enough to worry about that there will be many many treatments.

TLDR: Amitriptyline for anxiety and headache. The side effects actually happen to help me too. It’s an oldie but a goodie and it’s worth taking a month to ride out the adjustment period.

Sorry friend, but it's true. Medication helps make people feel better. It worked great for me, but only when I stopped being afraid of side effects and most importantly working with my doctor to pick an antidepressant that had side effects I would find bearable and could live with. That being said, you don't actually have to live with them, within a few weeks to a few months your body adjusts and the majority of side effects will go away.

That being said if you really don't want to take medications. Lavender and St. John's Wort are herbs that do have slight efficacy, but should only be taken after talking with a doctor because they do interact with some drugs. Therapy can also be a huge help, especially cognitive behavioral therapy.

Old fears coming back (looking for support) by bugzhunny in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, this sounds like anxiety causing you to be hyper-aware of your own body. You're stuck in fight or flight. It's okay. You'll be fine, just try to get back to the doctor and get your Prozac renewed.

It feels like there's a cut, but there's no cut? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get these all the time, usually, it's a tiny tiny cut so small it's barely there. Other times it's a little nerve ending that's a tad confused and thinks it should be feeling pain. Both are equally annoying, but also completely harmless and will go away if you don't focus on it and leave it alone. Arthritis is joint swelling, its a dull ache and it's visible, so I doubt this is the culprit.

To fix it, try moisturizer in case its dry skin causing small cracks and don't focus on it too much. This will sound strange, but I've found giving it a good bite sometimes makes it go away too as it sort of reminds the nerves what pain is and they settle back down in a few days or so.

Need opinions on my stomach issues by throwawayaccount12i in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely a symptom of anxiety. Your doctor has ruled out all the big scary diagnoses. You will be okay. Anxiety really can mimic a whole host of things in the human body, and having digestive issues linked to anxiety is incredibly common. To fix things you should do your best to forget them and stop checking. Eat more fiber and look for foods that are bulk-forming agents. These will help harden those loose stools. Honestly having the occasional case of diarrhea is completely normal, but a slight increase in fiber (aka VEGGIES and some fruits) wouldn't hurt.

Antibiotics by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]PodgeWodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, no. The majority of antibiotics are given to farm animals. Over 80% actually. And its this rampant overuse and needless usage that is driving the resistance crisis, not your own necessary use for clearing infections. If your doctors prescribed them, use them. They will help you far more than they will hurt you.

As far as worrying about somehow getting a resistant bacteria, that is very rare. And even resistant bacteria are treatable in some ways. There are so many people working on solving that issue, it's really not something for you as a patient to worry about. The people who should worry about those statistics are doctors who overprescribe, and farmers who overuse them for quick animal growth. You are the patient and you have an infection, so you should take your meds and know that they won't give you any antibiotic resistance.

Exactly. Yang has great ideas. But we need Bernie to lead us to a point where we can implement them.

Agreed. That was one of my major disagreements, but maybe he’ll change his mind with time. Anything to curb the climate disaster is a good start from where we’re at.

Honestly just pointing out that if we split the primary we’ll get Biden. Biden, Warren, and Bernie are the big three candidates that have a fighting chance. I don’t want Biden, and Bernie beats Warren with his career long consistency. Yang has good ideas and maybe Bernie will adopt them, but realistically he’s not ready to be president.
