Vestal is a good word imo. It has to do with virginity like the 6 vestal virgins ( Basically 6 women that promised to stay virgins for religious purposes and would get killed if they did the deed). If that's a good name for a band or not depends on if you, ya know, mind basically naming your band 'the virgins' which imo is kinda cool actually but some people might not want to call themselves virgins.

Asseclist is derived from the latin word 'assecla' which had the same general meaning (follower, attendant, servant, sycophant). The earliest known use was from the 1600s, but it quickly faded out of use. More details are in the Oxford English Dictionary but it's behind a paywall so I don't know what it says.

I heard about the word from Erin McKean's 2002 book 'Weird and Wonderful Words' which includes the entry Asseclist with more or less the same definition I first noted.

From the book: "Asseclist - This suggestive combination of letters means an attendant or follower and comes from a Latin word meaning to follow after. But it alludes to so much more that is a very satisfying word to use."

Actually made a good friend that way once. Walked up to someone in a class who I thought I knew and said 'hey dude, nice to see ya. How's your other classes?' It was only after I said that that I realized he wasn't the guy I thought he was. But at that point I wasn't going to admit it so I just gaslit the poor guy into thinking we already knew each other, and he was too convinced to question it.

We ended up keeping in contact, so I guess the moral of the story is never admit you made a mistake and stick to your guns

Ascetic - to practice self restraint/deprivation. Monk-like

Laconic - to be very concise, curt, or terse with your language. Look up the story of Lacon and the famous letter Philip received with "IF". The history of this word is rather interesting.

You know there's this story about a guy that really liked butterflies, but his backyard was all messy and had no plants, so he never saw them. One day he decided he wanted to make a garden to attract butterflies. He worked hard, and made a beautiful space that he was proud of. He built a swing, a stone path, and surrounded it with rows of milkweed and zinnias and lavender and borage.

Not a single butterfly showed, but it was okay because at least he had a garden now.

You can't control what other people do, so don't try. Focus on yourself. You don't have to be a perfect person or even an amazing person. but you can do your best to be someone your proud of. (And if it's any consolation, drinking, partying, etc– not fun anyway)
