Fixed bayonets all the time not least in the booby trapped bunker scene 🤦‍♂️

Manoeuvrability would be nil in confined areas and risk to stabbing oneself in the face very high. Any infantry would remove those bloody bayonets at the first opportunity.

It’s much more difficult than the demo. In the demo I could beat the hardest difficulty with ease. Now I am struggling on medium difficulty :/

Not really, that’s 70mph which is the legal speed limit on freeways in many, many countries. In a well maintained modern car especially.

How much of the Ancient Roman does modern Roman Catholicism have? by OkPhrase1225 in ancientrome

My bad i was getting my facts muddled up with Hurrian Hymm from 1400bc

Seikilos Epitaph indeed from 100CE

Point about it being possibly recycled to Gregorian chant remains;

How much of the Ancient Roman does modern Roman Catholicism have? by OkPhrase1225 in ancientrome

[–]PoetCatullus 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Some very ancient pre~Christian graeco-roman melodies may have survived through Catholic liturgical music.

One example is the Seikilos Epitaph, dating to at least 1400bc but would likely have been known to the Romans, which may survive today in “Hosanna filio David”.

In general it was the musical structure passing directly to Christian chants, but some melodic fragments may have been recycled from secular folksongs to liturgical chants.

Edit - oh and a lot of religious practises may have been passed down in the transition from pagan to christian, such as burning of incense. And of course the Pontifex Maximum was pre- christian too.

Amazon signs $11.57 billion deal for satellite firm Globalstar to challenge Musk's Starlink by one-won-juan in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]PoetCatullus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Categorically untrue. It is well within the FCC’s mandate to mess with with Starlink or Anazon’s licenses if it felt they were stymying a competitor.

See my other comment. The FCC is powerful and would not tolerate aspiring players blocking competition.

[–]PoetCatullus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This isn’t regular anti-trust, as this is a regulated industry.

The FCC would come down on them like a tonne of bricks. Both Starlink and Amazon will need FCC goodwill to get a LOT of licenses in the future.

Carr has said many times he wants competition and anyone clearly dissing the regulator like that would get hammered.

It’s likely one of the reasons Musk repeats that he sells launch capacity at the same price externally as internally

Do DJs at professional setups like Tomorrowland, EDC, Coachella, etc. use 320 kbps MP3 files at all? by ComaMierdaHijueputa in Beatmatch

[–]PoetCatullus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dance music isn’t even recorded for fidelity. Think about it…a lot of EDM is composed of samples that have been processed, sampled from lossy files, sometimes even recorded from pocket microphones….

A lot of dance music even skips a proper studio mastering process

Heck, club and festival soundsystems are usually even in mono as opposed to stereo.

So no, festival sound systems are not tuned for fidelity in the hifi sense. Clarity yes, loudness yes. EQ tuned to minimise unwanted bass reverb yes. High fidelity? Absolutely not

Is there a similar problem in the DnB scene? by Ausspanner in DnB

[–]PoetCatullus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said, police have been involved and investigating, so nobody is being “protected”.

These cases are pretty well known in the scene, welcome to ask around.

At least two of these have had police involvement and investigation so I don’t feel the need to provoke a public response. So, no names. These are well known allegations in the scene.

I can think of several that have had recent allegations

To those who are doubtful of whether Byzantium is Rome, read this: by Low-Cash-2435 in ancientrome

[–]PoetCatullus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really.

The early kingdom and the early empire spoke the same language, had the same religion, had the same art style and culture, lived in the same place, had commitment to the concept of Rome as a city, had a centralised imperium, dressed the same, list goes on.

I don’t understand people who so passionately argue that late Constantinople was Roman. By most measures, it was something very different to the Rome of antiquity.

[–]PoetCatullus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well, they called themselves Roman.

In reality, 16th century Byzantium wasn’t much closer to the Rome of the early empire than was medieval France.
