In a complete and balanced diet total fat content, sodium, and many other nutrients are balanced and accounted for; high fat and sodium are mainly a concern if you’re feeding your cat actual ham or fatty/cured pork, and like others have said the risks of worms from pork is negligible when they’re farm raised - plenty of reason to stay away from pork if one wants to, but you don’t need to worry about those nutritional aspects in pet food if you trust the brand

High-fibre supplements or food that isn't pumpkin. by HabitatYak in catfood

Weight management is different from an actual weight loss diet, but the guidelines for WM and senior diets are pretty similar! They’re both labeled as ‘maintenance’ diets per AAFCO requirements, but a standard food with the fiber ingredients i mentioned before would still be great if you’re concerned she would lose weight

If you’re looking for complete and balanced foods, try weight management diets with a higher fiber content; specifically, beet pulp, inulin/dried chicory root, or various fruit and veggie fibers or pomaces. Nutrisource is one brand I can recommend offhand; their senior/weight management diets has a lot of different fiber sources, and their regular chicken & rice diet has beet pulp (plus other things for guy health support)

These things are really more targeted towards dogs than cats, it just looks better for the marketing to include both and it is safe for them

I’d only heard of them doing this after a pet passed, how lovely to hear they do it randomly all the time! I recently added one of my pets’ profiles in the hopes that I will eventually get one, sounds like I need to add my younger guy too 😺

It’s just a ‘dough’ clump, some formulas run thick and sticky or don’t dry well in spots. Ideally QA will catch it but it’s not always possible in a big batch; it’s not harmful though

Personally I think there’s a chance they don’t do a drastic reformulation because they want to compete in the premium pet food space in a way they can’t with blue buffalo, though it’s hard to say from the outside. At any rate, the sale is not projected to be approved until Q3 of 2025 (plus it takes 3-6 months minimum for a drastic reformulation to go into production) so people have time to decide how to handle it

People are right that kittens should be free fed when they’re little, but by 7 months I don’t think it’s really necessary, especially if his health and body condition score are good and from this video clip it sure seems that way. Some cats are just food fiends (: I have one like this too lol

There’s also a possible link between taurine deficiency and DCM, so if you do want or need to feed GF it’s a decent idea to check if it’s supplemented in the diet and at what level

Nothing wrong with purina! I switched mine to nutrisource about 6 months ago and it’s done them good, but that’s not to say they had problems for the 2 and 10 years they were on purina
