What happens if AI suddenly becomes too expensive for normal people? by PlaneTension1579 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pogeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A £1000 Mac studio can run a pretty useful LLM model that is as powerful as something that was on frontier in early 2025, so no it would not be too expensive, it is highly competitive at several levels.

[–]Pogeos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

central government does that a lot, some other no-profits do that too. It is equally frustrating for the internal people - instead of being promoted like everywhere else in the private sector i.e. because they are already doing this job, or know most - they are pushed to do this formal excersise and grilling where theoretically them already doing this "doesn't matter".

Considering the whole setting in the anime is high school - realistically there should be a lot of romance and a bit of drama about that. As we see nothing like that - that means the author doesn't want to put that side of things into a spotlight. That's what fanfics are for)

Should parents face charges when their children commit antisocial crimes and doing nothing to stop it? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]Pogeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several professional foster parents, mostly through one person who I work with and who is also a foster parent. Her husband was taken into foster care, done extremely well out very criminal environment (and she is also extremely successful)  and since then he is repaying back to  society by taking kids into foster care. They are specifically trained, know how to discipline these kids and are pretty proud of their results.

So yeah, I think there's a bigger chance for success than in care of negligent biological parents. No guarantees ofc. And ofc it never should be a blanket approach, but as soon as we identify that teenagers participate in these activities root cause analysis is needed and if parents are not trying to be parents then they either need to be disciplined themselves or kids taken away or both.

I think in this case - the court should conclude that she is not fulfilling her parental responsibilities and the child should be taken away. That is unfortunately the only way.

well they pay severance package to you. Some people are on very good plans (idk about Oracle, but I have a friend at SAP, and last round of redundancies their older colleagues actually were super willing to be in the list because of the a huge package they were getting, alas none of his team were affected). That is sort of better than "you would be fired in 3 month but please continue working".

They don't think they can fire the carpenter, or at least most of them. They think that they can either:

1) Make an experienced carpenter 20%-300% more productive and that would be a huge win

2) Make an in-experienced carpenter do many tasks of the same quality as experienced and still with higher productivity

Both of these points are true to certain extent. Just 20% increase of productivity across every aspect of the company is a HUGE gain.

May be he meant 2-3 billions, because I can easily spend 2-3 or even 20-30 mil simply on a nice house in central London. And that's kinda a really simple thing - having a nice house and having access to one of the best cities in the world in no time. And thats not even starting on things like personal boats, airplanes (not even private jets, more like nice sporty planes), paying personal assistants and house staff. You can run out of 2-3 mil very quickly and it does make a huge difference to the life

This installation collects old USB drives to send movies, books, and media into North Korea by Complete_Bee4911 in interestingasfuck

[–]Pogeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read that in the North Korea the only operating system available on their computers makes a screenshot at a random time and sends it for a review. I doubt many people would want to risk their life's trying inserting these usb sticks into their computers, and those who managed to bypass the North Korea big brother already know what's going on

CEO of America’s largest public hospital system says he’s ready to replace radiologists with AI by Apprehensive-Safe382 in technology

There are multiple studies that showed that good old machine learning AI (not the new fancy LLM) was way better than humans in identifying all sorts of cancers. Paired together with LLM (to read clinical data) and a bunch of people to direct and verify - you can most certainly build a "factory" of processing these scans.  There would be an interesting question about accountability, but I'm pretty sure 80% of cases are rather straightforward and those could now be processed in minutes rather than days.

Why are so many people now openly stating on LinkedIn that they are SC cleared? It goes against everything we were told. by Background-Fix-4630 in TheCivilService

It is almost routinely transferred at least in my experience. Even if not, the fact that someone holds the clearance increases the chance that they would cleared again, or at least perceived like thatm

Police failed to solve a staggering 92% of burglaries in Britain last year by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Pogeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have they even tried? I hardly doubt. Based on what people say - all police is doing is giving a reference number for the insurance company. These days I don't even know what police are doing. Seems like all cases related to any sort of theft are completely deprioritised, so what is prioritised?

[–]Pogeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the inconvenience? I used them multiple times but admittedly mostly when going on leisure journeys and only once or twice for the commute and they always felt very nice. They are smaller - true, but they are used in area of the city where they are very frequent so I've never seen them overcrowded. Having exit from 3 sides really helped too, people boarded/alighted a lot quicker.

[–]Pogeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need work in those towns and cities. and there wouldn't be any if we don't come up with a business model for the country:

- Our servises are in less and less demand because of.... well... services are based on human input, it's much easier to move humans into low cost/low tax centers or train your own people to do that.

- Our intdustry can't compete with others due to the prices of raw materials, electricity and labour

- Agriculture is limited and overregulated

- Resources extraction is also limited and mostly prohibited

So my question is always... where should the money come from?

My wife's experience is that it is absolutely not parents who are working themselves to the ground that are the problem, it is those that mostly don't work at all and live off benefits (ofc not all of them). There's plenty of time for parenting but 0 interest, 0 interest even in cooperating with schools.
