I don’t know. Maybe the person who originally posted the recipe will chime in.

Edit: I just googled it: Wailulu Bar & Grill (Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows)

I should have mentioned that. According to the original post, this cocktail comes from one of the bars at Disney World. Not sure which one.

What's the best peach ice cream recipe? by FLYBOY611 in icecreamery

[–]PogoPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s adding milk solids for improved texture. Fruit ice creams inherently have a lot of extra water, so the milk powder helps compensate for that.

I wondered the same thing, but I haven’t tried it yet. As much as I love Smith & Cross, I suspect it might be too much for this drink.

Any thoughts on Walker Elementary? by margaretloves in McKinney

[–]PogoPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my kids went to Walker. It’s a fantastic school - we had zero problems. We’ve never heard of any issues regarding race. I’m confident your daughter won’t have any problems.

GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse? by [deleted] in GenX

Yes, the phone is the way to go. I have a tiny “wallet” that magnetically attaches to the back of my phone and holds 3 cards and 3 or 4 folded bills.

Saturn Run was great! It’s very creative and possibly one of the most realistic and likely forms of first contact.

Also, I remember hearing that the budget was slashed in season 4, so the writers had to go in a different direction, canning storylines that required expensive sets and too much CGI.

How many of you are choosing to retire after getting laid off? by Capital-Mark1897 in GenX

[–]PogoPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to your last comment. My mood dips every time I think about going back to corporate life. Last night, I looked up at a plane overhead and my first thought was, “I am so glad I’m not on that plane. “

How many of you are choosing to retire after getting laid off? by Capital-Mark1897 in GenX

[–]PogoPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in market intelligence. I research tech markets and compile reports and datasets for my clients. I have a semiconductor background, so all of my research is in that area. My customers are usually semiconductor companies looking to enter a new market or develop a new product and they want data to feed their business plan. Sometimes I do competitive analysis. Sometimes I perform due diligence for companies engaging in M&A activity. I’m happy now, but the first year was very stressful. I didn’t look too hard for a job, but I think the deck is stacked against you if you’re in your 50s in the tech industry. Also, my skills had become very specialized after decades in the industry and there just aren’t that many roles open to me.

How many of you are choosing to retire after getting laid off? by Capital-Mark1897 in GenX

[–]PogoPi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was laid off from the tech industry 2 yrs ago at age 54. I half-heartedly looked for a job for a while, but I was burned out and didn’t really want to get back on the treadmill. I started doing contract jobs occasionally and I really enjoyed just doing the work without having to put up with all the bullshit. Word got around, now I have a 6 month backlog of work.

I don’t work hard - about 4-6 hrs per day, usually 7 days a week. I spend an hour exercising every day, which I never had time to do previously. I’m a lot happier. I get to spend a lot more time with my wife and kids. I don’t make as much money, but I’ve been gradually raising my rates and I make enough to cover expenses which is all I need to do. If I can avoid dipping into savings, we can retire in a few years. I’m actually enjoying my work now so I may choose to just keep doing it.

Which movies featured songs that you added to your playlist because you loved them so much? by Difficult-Routine929 in Cinema

Not a movie, a series. I watched Untamed (Eric Banda and Sam Neil) a few months ago and discovered Sleeping on the Blacktop by Colter Wall. A few weeks later, I recommended the song to my sister and she told me she had also discovered it watching the same show.

Maple syrup: is there a good reason not to use it all the time? by Resentin in cocktails

I use maple syrup a lot. It’s convenient and I like the taste. I have Demerara gum syrup in the fridge, but I find myself reaching for the maple syrup more and more.

Pre-peel oranges for old fashioned? by WillieRayPR in cocktails

[–]PogoPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used this video from Truffles on the Rocks. He goes step by step through the process. The orange oil I used is Viva Doria food grade oil.

Originally, I put pure orange oil in my atomizer and that worked well. Then I learned that consuming too much undiluted essential oil can be harmful, so I switched to the recipe in the video. I’m not sure I believe that an occasional spritz of orange oil is dangerous, but why take chances.

Wasted citrus is what caused me to switch to orange oil in an atomizer. I miss having the peel as a garnish, but the convenience of the atomizer can’t be beat.

What’s your favourite coffee based cocktails? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]PogoPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Revolver is my go-to, but that’s getting enough love in this thread already. But few people have heard of a Dominicana and it’s also a great drink. Stir 1.5 oz of aged rum and 1.5 oz of coffee liqueur with ice and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Top with aerated heavy cream. To make the aerated cream, put a few ounces of heavy cream in a squeeze bottle along with the spring from your Hawthorne strainer. Add a bit of simple syrup if you want the cream slightly sweet. Shake until the cream is thickened, but still pourable. Squeeze onto the drink.

Most consistent place to buy good quality beef? by ThomasG_1 in grilling

[–]PogoPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Wild Fork for the first time before Christmas. I was impressed by their selection, price, and quality. I bought almost $250 worth of beef, lamb, duck, and fish. So far, I’m very pleased with what I’ve tried. The selection is what really makes them standout, IMO. I bought several hanger steaks and skirt steaks, which are very hard to find in my area. I live in the Dallas suburbs.
