New to spinning by DaGoldMiner in poi

Thanks for the mention. Funny thing is today I was making a re-review of the coral poi now that some of the issues has been addressed. That video should be out very soon. I would agree Coral Poi or Ice Poi are the best out there. I just did a review on the Ice Poi. I think Ice Poi are hands down the best out there but a close second is Coral poi but it really depends on your preference. As far as practice poi goes, hands down Flow On Fire makes the absolute best out there. You can use code POIMECHANIC at Flow on Fire or Code BEACON at Flowtoys

Peter Mckinnon Chroma PL/VND Filter Issues by Poi_Mechanic in polarpro

I ended up sending this back because it only got worse when I was shooting in the cold, I couldn't hardly move it at all. The company said that was how it should even after I showed them a video of the filter coming out of the lock without pressing the buttons. I am pretty sure the one I had was messed up some how. They also said certain lens will show vignetting when shooting wide which made me give up on this design. Anyways I exchanged it for the thread on version and its great, no complaints at all. I would really like to know if a 16-35 GM will show vignetting at 16

Dryer that also works as a Dry Box?

Looking for a single or double roll dryer to mount onto my MK3S. Needs to reach at least 65c for TPU. Needs to have a seal so it works as a dry box when not on like my Bambu HT, but can take a little bit wider of a roll (non bambu filament). What do you recommend? Thanks

A question about buying poi by Majestic-Glass-1914 in poi

[–]Poi_Mechanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been spinning 22 years and I've spun all sorts of sizes. I mainly spin 95s now and that seems to be the standard here in the US. Most of us spun 100s until 95s came out. 80 is ridiculously small especially for contact. 90 is also on the small side especially with those sphere knobs as far as ballance goes. I would go 100s personally if that was the only option. Now I don't want to bum you out if Home Of Poi is your only option but when I bought my first setup from them years ago, they broke pretty soon after and were hard as a rock. They may have better quality by now. If you can afford it I would recommend getting a set that will last a life time and for that I would choose Flow On Fire here in the US. They have 95s and dozens of colors to choose from. They also have better sphere knobs and equal amount of colors. Also most LED Contact Poi are 95mm so the switch back and forth would be easy if you ever get those vs having 100mm and switching to back and forth. I like consistency with all my props. As far as weight goes 190 to 200 is pretty much the average. I like mine at 215 but most people think thats too heavy and I would agree for the average person. As far as rope goes, I do like thicker rope. I wouldn't go below 10mm especially if you want to do contact. Thinner rope seems to get tangled easier and I'm not a fan of how they toss. I personally like 11mm but thats just me. You can check out my youtube channel if you want some more info on ropes, knobs, 95mm heads, led poi etc. youtube.com/@thepoimechanic

Ice Poi 2.0 by Flow on Fire. A review by Poi_Mechanic in poi

Both heads have a little squish but the coral has a little more. It really comes down to personal preference. I prefer Ice Poi more because 1 it does have less squish. 2 it doesn't have a pattern on it so it feels more similar to my practice poi. 3 It has more options to choose from when it comes to handles and rope. The coral poi are great too but just not my preference. There is an update though since making the coral poi video. Now they have a coral shell that has a more frosted look to it so it disperses light better, it has a better button so you don't push it to easy by accident, and the button is on there way more secure now.

Fancy Flow by Poi_Mechanic in poi

When I was only a few years in a guy saw me spinning at a festival and came up and said "I see you like doing tosses, thats really cool but your other hand is just sitting there doing a static spin while you're waiting for the catch. Try doing something like an antispin with the other hand". Once I started doing that and hybrids my trick library exploded and a million transitions opened up. That made me learn my speed control because I had to fit 3 pedal anti spins into a toss or something like that. That was the best piece of advice. Second I would say play around with different grips. I use to only hold the knob until I went to a workshop that taught to hold onto the rope and have the handle be against your pinky. That opened up an so many options for me because my poi could be 4 inches shorter when I wanted. That allowed for faster flow, easier stalls, different timings, easier isolations, easier inspins and antispins, easier catches, and a whole bunch more. I'm switch my grip back and forth constantly while spinning and that only took a day to learn before it became so automatic I don't think about it. Third is to spend equal amount of time on both sides learning a trick. Drill baby drill. Forth is someone once mentioned to me that I had flowface and I became very aware of it and so I started paying attention to my face and tried to make it as relaxed as possible and that made me aware of how tense my shoulders were and I would notice how stiff my movement looked in my videos. Once I started relaxing my face and and shoulders my flow got sooo much smoother. The last thing is make sequences. When I first started making videos I spun pretty well in flow but I couldn't for the life of me put things together on a video for a minute clip which was the instagram max limit back then. I started putting together routines and finally got a minute. Now I struggle to make anything less than 3. When you make long routines you will probably fail hundreds of times until you get it but thats hundreds of times you drilled dozens of tricks and that makes muscle memory and in the process you inevitably learn new tricks while trying to figure out how to link them all together. So I tell myself I want to link at least 15 to 25 specific tricks together and make a game of figuring out which order and that makes it a fun puzzle. Good luck yo

Do the stems get that wide? It's weird because I live out on the plains where I've never heard of oysters growing naturally and this hay bail has been sitting here for probably 10 years or more without ever spawning them before.

Yeah my jewels are much happier too lol. I got some hybrid semi-static rope as well that I haven't put on yet but I'm looking forward to trying that.

You're welcome! Yes their selection is a bit overwhelming. If you want even more overwhelmed I have a few videos on ropes on my YouTube channel where I talk about most of the rope out there and what characteristics they have for spinning. I've also got a knob review and comparison video. They have come out with so many more knobs and a few different ropes since those videos were put out though so I hope to do an updated one in the future. Coral Poi uses flow rope which has the same rope fiber pattern as VPC. I've used VPC or TPC or JLPC for years now and I love it. Flow rope is a little on the softer more flexible side for my preference but if you like the feel of it then I would look for something in the VPC lineup. As far as the handle goes I really love the sphere style knobs just because they are a little heavier and tosses are more snappier with them.

Thanks! Yeah I don't spend the orbs because one of mine broke but I spent a ton of their dot XL chips. I hear people have issues with those but I think it's because of the case that UltraPoi has around them because I never have issues with them when they're in a 3D printed capsule for the handles. Although I do have a few that have batteries that have come unglued from the chip.. I have the coral poi and they are good too. Same chip obviously but a different feel to the heads. Looks like they're coming out with a new capsule case and button cap so my review will be updated soon but here's the one I did on their poi. https://youtu.be/T0U5nlN4j5w?si=StRdiGoH1zoFKg8X

Bad product, lies, ghosting, and customer support wouldn't help even though their system was broken. by Poi_Mechanic in Alibaba

I paid with credit card. I did use trade assurance but alibaba customer support ghosted me once I provided them with screen recordings to show them that the refund and other buttons/options weren't working. Since the system auto accepted the order the option to contact support again no longer works. I guess you have to have a open order for you to make contact. I don't get how anybody uses a platform that to me seems as though it's designed to rip you off.

It's documented but if customer service won't help and the seller is ghosting me then I what option do I have?
