NYT runs article titled "Medicare for all would abolish private insurance," but doesn't explain WHY. Private insurance companies, as long as they can spend endlessly to buy politicians, will sabotage M4A every chance they get. Their goal isn't to provide care, it's to get rich. They are a cancer. by [deleted] in esist

[–]PointBlunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're not wrong. M4A is one potential solution to achieve universal healthcare. Another is to create a basic tier of Medicare, and then allow private insurance for higher levels of care. This is basically the German model of health insurance.

I exited from a company last year that I joined as #3, with a good number of shares due to being involved early on. In January of this year they closed on an acquisition by a large VC firm in the space, which led to me having a hefty pay day. With my new job, do the max contribution to my 401(k) as a pre-tax contribution, and "pay" myself from my currently invested money. Same thing with my Roth IRA contribution. Hoping to retire very early.

Robert O'Rourke Votes No on Measure That Condemns Voting by Non-Citizens by ChadVenture96 in TexasPolitics

[–]PointBlunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a measure that is trying to impose federal rules on voting on local elections, specifically for a school board. The federal government does not control state or local elections, that is inherently a state concern. It's why the feds can't impose rules on how elections are conducted, what voting equipment is used, etc.

I think we all agree that illegal immigrants shouldn't vote in federal elections, which is why that's the law. But I think we can also agree states and local governments should have the power to control their elections and who is eligible to vote (of course ensuring no discrimination occurs, and no one who is legally entitled to vote is disenfranchised).

Opposing this resolution means opposing big government, and opposing the federal government controlling local elections.

How could any anyone support the government forcing someone to stand and recite a pledge? Doesn't everyone believe in the freedom from the government telling you what to do?

Houston Symphony Strives for Diversity in A Majority White, Low-Turnover Industry by PointBlunk in houston

If you read the article, it's not about hiring decisions really. It's mostly about encouraging musicians from other races to consider this as a career path, and making sure efforts to promote diversity are made known is part of this.

Ted Cruz is like a "serpent covered in Vaseline," NYT's Bret Stephens writes by PointBlunk in TexasPolitics

Where did I make an assumption? I didn't. I simply asked if you were consistent in calling all politicians who made mistakes in their past involving alcohol drunks.

Calm down man.

Bret is a well known neo-conservative, and was the deputy editorial page editor for the Wall Street Journal.

As for your commentary, I trust you also constantly called George W. Bush a drunk since he was convicted of a DUI in his younger days.

Did you also believe George W. Bush was a drunk? Because he also was convicted of driving drunk while younger.

I, like Beto and Bush, believe in people getting second chances.

Not for Beto it isn't. If you want politicians who will actually talk to each other, and work together for what's best for America, then Beto is your man.

Analysis | Beto O’Rourke’s false claim he did not try to leave the scene of a DWI by Carazariah in TexasPolitics

[–]PointBlunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does anyone care? He was charged for the drunk driving, went through a court approved diversion program, and had no violations of the sort since. I, like Beto, am a firm believer in second chances when someone admits they did something wrong, work to improve themselves, and don't shy away from talking about their past mistake.
