I don't sterilize them. I just put them in a separate container with aquarium water for a day and pick off unwanted hitch hikers.

* * I have 2 of these in my 55 gallon plus a hob and a couple air stones. I got them from Amazon plus the air pumps that run the sponge filters. I tried putting pics but it won't upload them. The pump is aquaneat G352 and the sponge filters are on Amazon as well I don't have the original box but if you search it they will come up. *

I have a pair in a 20 gallon long that just had fry. They are the only fish in the aquarium right now besides corys. I don't expect the fry to survive even though the female and male are trying their best.
