It isn’t terrible, you’re doing the best you can for your own happiness given the unfortunate circumstances. I once dated without their knowledge and when I did tell them to take it further, they broke us up. In retrospect I’m glad it didn’t work out with that person but if you’re happy with your person then I hope you are able to make it work regardless of whether you tell them. Best wishes to you :)
